3dmark 2001 SE is out

<< well that was interesting they added one more thing and more advertising. >>

Why did you expect anything more?
They said all they were adding was one test, and fixing the bugs that lowered the Kyro's score.

It is supposed to fix a few things. For one, it's supposed to recoginze my PIII-S now instead of an "Unknown CPU". Dloading it now (slow).

<< i dunno aboutu guys but the seconds mirror was fast for me at around 500k/s >>

yea, second one is fast...im downloading right now at 121 kb/sec. the speed is still rising right now though.

If you are wondering how much it helped the Kyro II, with my 1GHz system and a Kyro II, I am now getting around 2600. Before I was getting 2200. And the new test is the "Advanced Pixel Shader," another thing my Kyro II CAN'T do...

Edit -
Oh yeah, and SE doesn't give me that weird error I used to get when trying to start up regular 3DMark2001...

I downloaded and gave it a try. I got 6445 with my settings at 190/430 in Win98SE. Tried other drivers
and settings and thats the only one that completed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The new test looks pretty kewl. Just some fish swimming under water by a boat but the way the water distorts the fish appearance is done pretty well.

Took me a like 10mins to download it. I'm getting 6222 right now with a non overclocked non-tweaked system I just put together tonight. I'll experiment later.

my score went DOWN drastically, i have a radeon 8500, anything i should put into consideration? it went from 8569 to 7949

My score was 4725 slight increase over then before with my GF2 Ti & XP 1700+ rig not overclocked.

hmmm.

I went down as well by over 150 points. It seems like ati cards are getting slower and Nvidia cards are getting higher scores.:disgust:

<< I think this version helps AthlonXP and Geforce4s. Not sure though. >>

It adds one new DX8 test, called "Advanced Pixel Shaders", it adds support for DXT1 texture compression, and it also fixes the rendering into textures bug that artifically limited the Kyro 1/2's score. It also optimizes Dynamic shadow rendering.

There are no specific optimizations for the GF4/AthlonXP nor anything that should alter the scores of either one to any substantial degree.
According to MO the vast majority of non-Kyro based systems and graphics cards supporting 32bit compressed textures should see no performance difference outside of the 3% margin of error.

In advanced pixel shaders, the R8500 is supposed to perform better then the GF4 as it can render the scene in one pass compared to the two passes required by the GF4.

So, does that represent MadOnion's opinion of the video card technology & 3D application growth expected in 2002?

Or is there still a 3DM2k2 in the works?

Don't get me wrong, 3D apps. today are very cool, but I thought the step from 2K0 to 2k1 was fun............

/me wants another one!
