Umm... I just don't see the appeal of these cards anymore. Even if this card was stable (and it's probably not), it would perform about as well as a $30 GeForce 2 Ultra in most games.

You're missing the point.. of course no one would want this for its performance. This card is a very rare classic! Read up on the llink provided in the auction description.

Many of the 6000s were/are fully stable. IIRC this is more along the performance line of a GF3 without the features or good openGL support. It's mostly for novelty, and rich fans of the series. If I had an exorbant amount of cash I'd buy one myself just because it would be neat to own the best (production level) card 3dfx ever made.

This would be pretty cool to have for the Glide capability for old games, as it's the fastest Glide card there. I wouldn't buy it for $800 though, or anything close. :Q I doubt it would show a big increase over the Voodoo2 SLI in my retro gaming PC for the old, Glide-only games anyway.

Shouldn't the 6000 utterly dominate a voodoo2 SLI setup? It's closer to the speed of a GF3 isnt it? Someone refresh my memory!

It will in general, but these Glide-only games I have (Descent, Descent 2, Nuclear Strike and a few others) are some of the earliest 3D accelerated games and can only go up to 800x600 or 1024x768, so they run at 100fps at all times even on the V2s.

Increase for sure. It's got a unique place in history in that it was from THE pioneering company in the gaming world, the flagship product in a high-profile industry, yet never released amid the hype during 1999-2000 cause 3dfx went under. Classic tragedy! There will be periods where no one might be interested in collecting 'an old video card.' But there will also come a time where it might be sought after for over $10k... who knows.

Seller says it's an earlier 2600 revision. The most sought after ones are the functional 3700A revisions, essentially preproduction runs. But hell, if any of the revisions actually WORK, that's the biggest issue I suppose.

My Voodoo5 5500 was an incredible card. I dreamt of the day these V5-6000 cards would come to market. I don't think modern videocards have acheived the visually pleasing AA of the V5 to this date. I could see bidding big bucks for an old card but would prefer to trade my old X-24 V2 SLI on one card for it.

Heck, I am all stoked about my upcoming upgrade from a 9800Pro-128mb to a X850XT-256mb. :laugh:

P.S. If anyone knows someone that wants a working Obsidian X-24...

I've seen those Obsidian cards go for a lot of money on e-bay as well.. not in the same league as the 6000, but still quite a bit.
