3dfx Voodoo5 5500 64MB PCI Benchmarks and Halo

For those of you who wanted to know, here it is.

All software updated, taskbar cleared and benchmarks defaulted unless specified.

Voodoo5 Drivers - Amigamerlin 3.0 XP Full

3DMARK 2000 - 4858
3DMARK 2001 - 2424

Any other benchmark requests welcome. Please provide download link when possible.

3dfx made better cards and drivers.

Yeah, and a sub 3000 3DMark2k1... sorry, "made better cards and drivers" might work 5 years ago but today the lowest of nVidia's (as well as ATI's) low could crush a V5 5500. Use to be a time when the 5500 use to be the hands down best PCI card as well, no longer as there are 9100/9200 and 5200/5600 and GF4 MX PCI cards that have since overtaken the 5500 as the best PCI solution.

MADE (past tense) better cards and drivers. And they would still make better cards if they existed.

This card doesn't support DX8 or DX8.1 and some other features like environmental bump mapping and dot3 bum mapping and possibly another, so because of these tests being skipped, the points go down. This card would get past 3000 if it did support these effects.

Plus Nvidia and ATI should take a history lesson of 3dfx Tools, cause they rock, you can customize everything in your mother with these babies.

I had a 5500 for about 6 months... what exactly could you customize on it that you can't on the other cards. I believe i replaced my 5500 with a Radeon 64DDR at the time... and i certainly don't remember missing anything that i could have done on the 5500.

True that, this is the first time I have actually used a 3dfx card without the crappy XP drivers that microsoft puts out. I see the tools. I see the performance. This card is true genius and so is the software, I have never experienced anything like this before. I'm in a child's playpen with millions of toys. I wanna try every game out again and see how it plays.

If you haven't already figured out, Halo is unplayable with a Voodoo5. It is below minimum requirements.

Yep, Halo requires hardware T&L, and the Voodoo5 doesn't support it.

Probably just an older version of Halo(Pre-XBox). I checked the Retail box for the Voodoo5 5500 that I have and there are no pictures of games on it. Are you absolutely sure it's Halo?

Halo was originally supposed to come out in the late 90s for Mac and PC, but MS bought Bungie, made it an Xbox exclusive, then shoveled off the work on the PC port to Gearbox. So it is entirely possible that there are Halo screenshots on a Voodoo5 box. Anyone with a Halo-Voodoo5 box have a scanner?

lol, but wasn't the v5 6000 sposed to be alot faster than the 5500? IMO, the v5 6000 should be able to beat a PCI radeon 9100 easily... real easy...
