semi-warm deal if you're looking for a decent video card locally at a decent price. this is in fact a voodoo3, but just a little slower at 123mhz (v3 2000- 143mhz, 3k- 166, 3500- 183). this unit was made only available to OEM channels, so its gonna be in a white box.

so its a decent card, but if you have the time and 30 or so more bucks i'd go for a tnt2 m64 32mb online, or even wait for the GeForce MX's.

majestic12, why even reply? lame.

btw, the card is marked at 79.99 and is actually on sale for 49.99. so 37.5% off is not a cold deal to me.

larrymoencurly, check out this budget roundup at http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1077&p=1
i'd definitely go with the v3. remember this is a v3 at only a lower core clock, unlike the velocity 100 which is basically a crippled v3 with half the ram. so according to anand's benchmarks the v3 1000 should be faster. the vanta does support 32bit gaming, albeit very slow and not worth it in my opinion.

He says that cause you can get the 2k from Staples for $30 after rebate.

misterj:

If someone specifically wants the 1000 and wants to buy locally, you're right because the lowest price shipped I could find on search was @$49.00 shipped, most were good $20 more.

However, you can buy the Voodoo3 2000 for $44.20 shipped after $30 3dfx rebate.
Unfortunately the rebate doesn't apply to the 1000.

If anyone cares about my opinion...I do NOT recommend the V3 1000. I bought one two months ago from Frys and it was DOA. However, since it was the last one the had, I called 3DFX support for help.

THEIR support told me to return it and upgrade. They said driver support is static...there will not be any new drivers and the 2000/3000 drivers "will not work with the 1000 card." It was developed as an OEM and Frys is selling them to get rid of the surplus.
