hardware, would you care to at least post links that are in english? it's getting very annoying....

by the way, this is what babelfish translated:
Quantum3D sells the system with 2 Pentium III to 800 mc/s processors for 10'000 US Dollar
last time i checked, a dual P3 system wasn't all that cheap either, especially at the workstation level. The v56K is only a fraction of that price...

if they build it..I will buy it. firingsquad has some interesting numbers that were pulled off from the demo unit during their visit to comdex...yah i know, its expensive but I can afford it and i am willing to pay. However, NV20 could be a compelling solution if in fact FSAA turns out to be vastly improved.

I meant the vid card if quantum will make it and not the graphics subsystem being advertised.:confused:

Yeah, he conviently forgot to mention the fact that it comes with a full-fledged dual processor workstation. Seems like a pretty big omission to me.

Hrmm gee just a small ommision there.

I'll give you the German site, there is no rules that says that AT is an english only BBS.

But seriously...$10,000 for a V5-6000, next time remember to mention that it comes with a Dual P3-800 workstation.

Hardware you're really proud that you learned how to link, aren't you? Well guess what, we aren't German. It was better back when you didn't link.

Hardware actually (*gasp*) has a point. That price is still crazy even if they were to throw in dually P3 1GB, 1GB of RIMMs, 100GB SCSI HD storage, ethernet, firewire, etc (BTW, that price is sans monitor)... you're still paying over $5000 for the video card. :p

Looks to be good for engineers and CAM ops (for whom value is measured in much different ways), and bad for everyone else.

what the FVCK are you talking about? Hmmm Dual P3-800 workstation at that level for $1500-2000. no..I don't think so. Good lord what is wrong with you....besides which you are paying for more than the system, you get all of Quantum3D's software, these systems support a half dozen graphics APIs and come with piles of 3D design software, that kind of stuff isn't cheap either.
Besides it's for an entirely different market. Look at a lincoln continental, will it do much that a ford taurus that costs 1/4 of the price won't? No but it's for a different market and that market doesn't give a damn...

I seriously hope that 3dfx's "Mosiac" is as good as they brag it to be just so I can see what kind of idiot comments you come up with when 3dfx kicks nVidia's ass (not that I actually think they will...I'd just like to see what hardware would post if they did).

Damn it....go home hardware...

<< The new AAlchemy models are packaged in the Quantum3D Heavy Metal(TM) custom 4U rack mount ruggedized enclosure and are equipped with advanced mother boards, Intel Pentium III processors, 256 MB system memory, removable 20 GB ATA/66 hard disk drives, CD-ROM, floppy drive, 2D/VGA, 10/100 Ethernet interface and Microsoft Windows® NT 4.0 Workstation Operating System standard. >>

The article doesn't say anything about SW coming with those systems. And as you can see... No SCSI, only 256MB RDRAM (it may even use SDRAM), 20GB HD (?!?!)... Ok, it does have a nice enclosure (probably $400-500 for it alone). So, the rest of the system (minus the video card) is worth $2,500 (and I think I'm being generous on that assesment).

That leaves $7,500 for...

Hey Guys, guess what, a Floppy Drive is out for 10.000$. There's no price for the V5 6000 itself, so why such a wrong title?

He really got raped by a Voodoo card....

I can buy a workstation for $2000 without a crt!
3dfx/quantum is crazy to charge $8000 for a $400-$600 gfx card!
Even Dave dont jumps in to defend the insane price!

I think you can buy that comp without the card for less than 5k

3dfx cannot charge the v5 6000 for $600 on gamers, so they charge a few thousands on professionals for the same product :)
that is really good business stragies.

Why make 600 when you can make 5000?
hehe

this is a totally different market, it doesnt matter if you could buy all those parts and put the system together for less, its like an SGI workstation or something, its not that much faster but it costs so much more because of all the special stuff for it. Some of their software could be very expensive specilaized software. IE autocad costs $4000 guys. Their software is probably the same very specialized type stuff
