3dfx let the cat out of the bag with "Rampage"....

hehehe....check this out from Shugashack

- M-Buffer? : "M" stands for multi-sample. ... in the multi-sampling method, used by Spectre, only one texture lookup per *pixel* (so that all subsamples use the same texture lookup value) is required. ...it reduces the amount of texture lookup by a factor of 4 compared to the VSA-100 method...

yowza, there's Ben's MSAA, heh...

- Recursive textures : Texturing flexibility by supporting N (8 for Spectre) independent, unique textures applied per pixel in a single rendering pass... Also reflection on water.

MOTHER OF GOD!!!! did that say 8 FRICKIN' TEXTURES IN A SINGLE PASS????

- Overbright (52-bit color) : Increased internal precision of 52-bits (signed 13-bits per RGBA color component), generating rendered images of substantially higher quality. The higher dynamic range reduces darkening resulting in more vibrant and realistic images.

heh....so much for the 22-bit post filter. <G>

and check the last little bit out:

another update: As this post goes up, it looks like this stuff is being deleted everywhere. Apparently 3dfx *really* didnt want this info to get out just yet.

my ass!!! They did it on purpose, kinda like nvidia's "leaked" drivers! They did it on purpose!

UHHHHH......

My god....I thought Rampage looked amazing just be seeing rumored speed specs...now it's got the amazing features to go with it!

lol, you're such a cynic RoboTECH 😉

8 Textures in a single pass? I'd have to it it to believe it! 52bit colour sounds intriuging to boot 🙂

who, moi? :Q

those specs are giving me wood here....I'll be back in a few seconds. Gotta go grab the paper towels.....

First, consider the source. That website is not what I would consider *respectable or reliable*.

However, I have seen a lot of specs floating around all over the place. But Robo, you know as well as anybody that rumors are just that ...... rumors. If even 1/2 the rumors about the Rampage, Radeon2, or NV20 are true, I will be happy.

Still though, it's nice to imagine what will happen next year. 🙂

Edit- Allright Robo, the paper towel thing was more information than we needed. LOL!!

Isn't nVidia also going to be using multi-sampling for their FSAA on the NV20? I thought 3dfx always said their method of producing FSAA is superior to that of nVidia's method. I guess they can't anymore.

SleepyTim, that's why I said what I said about "leaked my ass"

Those specs were actually posted ON 3DFX'S SITE!! THey have this nifty little "3dfx glossary", and those definitions were 3dfx's OWN defintions.

Not a shugashack rumor. It was also posted on the Motley Fool's board. 3dfx erased all the information tho.

Again, dunno if it was actually a "whoops, who put that up there?". I honestly think it was a "let's tease these sumbitches"

and you buttnuggets who thought I was getting all worked up...the "wood" was a piece of stick my dog brought in and the "paper towel" was to pick it up since my dog drooled all over it.

Geez, you guys!?!?!?!

I see Robo, I didn't realize that the info came from 3dfx, I thought you were saying it came from that other place. Wow, I think you are correct then. They are trying to stir up some good vibes and give us a little teaser. Not a bad idea really. That stuff sounds pretty impressive indeed. Bring it on baby !!!! 🙂

lol, I bet you didn't plan to say that when you posted the first part 🙂

well, you saw the name "Spectre", right?

you know that the codename of the rendering chip is Rampage, right?

You read in various interviews how Gary Tarolli has been p1mping "programmable T&L", right?

you know that DX8 supports programmable T&L (completely unsupported by the Geforce), right?

SAGE is the name of the separate T&L engine that will be paired with the Rampage chip on the Spectre board.

<< 8 Textures in a single pass? I'd have to it it to believe it! >>

Keep in mind, that does not mean it can render the 8 textures in a single cycle. If it multitextures with loopback, then it can render the second texel on the pixel without writing the pixel to the framebuffer first. It "loops back" the pixel to the beginning of the rasterizer when it reaches to the end of the texel pipeline. A single pass? Yes. A single cycle? No.

Multitexturing will still hurt performance, but not as badly because of the saved memory bandwith by not having to write and re-read from the framebuffer for each pixel.
