But thier memory is only 16 bit memory because nobody really uses anything more than that. Their memory uses a special technique though, so it actually gives closer to 22 bit memory output. ;)

Well not to rehash the crap now as I had a TNT at the time of the 16bit/32bit crap, 16bit is what most hardcore gamers were using in quake2. The speed needed wasn't there in 32bit and 3dfx knew that. Too bad marketing kill 3dfx because Nvidia was pushing 32bit eventhough their cards couldn't run higher than 800x600 over 60FPS in 32bit.

I really miss real competition for video card makers. I hope ATI can really start to challenge nvidia.

;)

I hope that winking emoticon means that you know the 9700 can swing the TI4600 around by its scrotum.
There is competition.

Ahh, 3dfx. My Voodoo5 is being passed on to my sister after over 2 years of loyal service, I'm finally upgrading to a 9700. Definitely the best card I've ever owned.

Well personally until ATI consistly produces quality drivers then I will stay away. The Radeon Series is a good start. I hope they continue with the 9700. ATI has made some good hardware for a while but their drivers have ALWAYS been sketchy.

Are you really just a jacka$$ prick or do you just act like it?

Just to add....a quote from Anand's Radeon 64MB DDR review. To prove my point. Drivers have always been the weak point but they seemed to have turned that around but just one product line doesn't prove to me that they have it completely under control.

With all the success that ATI has encountered in the past, there have been recent downfalls. Products such as the Rage128 were plagued with not only delayed releases but poor drivers. "High end" products, such as the Rage Furry MAXX, found themselves paired up with much better performing products from the competitors as a result of these delays. This poor track record was enough to keep the power computer user away from ATI, but good relations ensured ATI's success in the OEM market

i think the general Anandtech community no longer complains about ATi drivers anymore ever since the radeon 6326 came and and ever since then, everything has been stable. Even Anand said the 9700 opening drivers were solid from the start and the only remaining people who complain about current ATi drivers are mostly isolated cases, and nvidia fanatics.

the voodoo5500 r0x0red! why oh why did I sell it. I guess the pull of dual monitors on an ati 8500 was too strong (aaah, dual monitor goodness ). Personally I've never had driver problems with my radeon.
