3D Mark World Records!!!

Madness, one guy on the forums has done well though, with water cooling.
Managed to score over 13k with a single X1900 XTX!

this is gonna sound sarcastic but, wow he got an insane score on a benchmark that you can't play.

I don't mind ppl comparing 3dmark scores and trying to outdo everyone, but there's a line I draw when your entire goal is a bigger 3dmark score.

I'm sure that system would break records with game benchmarks too.

It's just competition. Doing something not many other people have done, or even can do. It's not like people are doing this and then saying "look what this card can do, you should buy this one."

these guys are overclocking world champs apparently (only in norway! lol) so this is their "sport" if you like, they tryin to whoop each others ass......and synthetic benches like 3D Mark provide the perfect performance comparison...because they are identical each run, and scale well with speed increases, its their only choice really.

bit crazy though, they poured Liquid Nitrogen into the cpu cooler for 6 hours continuous....now i just couldnt be bothered doin then

From the article: "After that an eight hour long session was used running air cooling to test the processor, video card and memory of the relatively new system. No serious attempts to set any new records with air cooling was done though, the best result was almost 14 000 points with 3DMark05."

Almost 14K with air. Not bad. 😀

Amazing.

As to the validity of shooting for killer 3DMark scores, like otis said, that's just what they like to do. It's like going to the drags and watching the top fuel cars make some passes. Do those cars have much to do with real-world cars? Nope. But just seeing one of those things hit 320mph in 4.6s is an incredible sight to behold. Who cares if it has any real-world application. Some things are just neat accomplishments in and of themselves.
