3D games only using 50% of screen space

I'm having an issue where when I load a 3D game, the game only takes up roughly 50% of the screen (slightly more vertically). That's after I changed the monitor size to it the max. This is a recent development. Things were fine before. The only change that's taken place is that I applied this fix. I'm running WinXP Pro with all the latest updates and using a 9800 Pro with the latest drivers (which I reinstalled in the hope that doing so would fix my problem). When I'm in 2D (i.e. staring at my desktop or whatever) there is no problem. My entire screen is filled. Any ideas what's going on? Any help would be much appreciated as I am stumped.

Well on my monitor, if I change to a different refresh rate, the portion of the screen that is filled is never what I want. Make sure that in the game or in the video card driver control panel that you didn't change refresh rates.

Run drivercleaner and then reinstall your drivers. If that doesnt work, see if a different monitor will make any difference. Try different games at different resolutions. Maybe even try a different video card if possible.
