3D cell Mag lite for $5 shipped **DEAD**

One issue is whether you "need" focusibility.
I ordered one of these and will be putting (don't know exact number yet) about 18 super-bright 11K MCD .1 W LEDs in it. While the Luxons are among the brightest output per LED, they aren't necessarily the most efficient way to use LEDs nor the highest total light output possible (unless you pair multiples). FWIW, driving an LED a little below it's max output will result in higher light/current ratio, at least with most- unsure about the Luxeons but you may need max output from then since you only have 2 or 3 at most.

If you move the LED array forward to the lens and have multiples, what you'd end up with is a compromise, not a tight beam but not a flood with dark center either. I find that compromise to be pretty close to the beam shape I wanted anyway so loss of ability to focus isn't all that important.

It seems I'm also in the minority about regulated brightness. I prefer the LED to get dimmer, and with that, drain current at a lower rate towards the end of the battery life. Otherwise, particularly with NiMH, you may find your light VERY quickly going out, almost no warning at all, sudden darkness.

The EverLED is one of the few FOCUSABLE LED modules for maglites. The Diamond modules are fixed focus (spot size) and defeat the purpose of having a mag lite with an adjustable beam head.

The $14.95 spot miser puts out less light than mini mag sized lights (check out the review at flashlightreviews or LED museum). The price for the everLED seems ridiculous, but it still appears to be the best choice.

Don't forget, many of these modules contain regulated power supplies as well as the LED, so it's a bit more the "just an LED."

If someone here buys one, maybe they can post an AT review?

According to Flashlightreviews.com the diamonds retain the focus feature of the mags.

Sorry, my bad, I was referring to the Fraen optic Diamonds which are not focusable. I should have been more specific.
