.....
you havent done anything stupid now have you

your computer is fine! only thing you might want to add is upgrade to 1gb and leave the option to upgrade to 2gb if you feel the need
your nvidia card is fine, no need for a firegl or quatro

later on when you are doing your final project the school might or might not provide you with rendering time, if not then thats the time to upgrade and use your old and new computer for rendering, this will be during your final year in the school

monitors are veeery important, I would personaly recomend dual screens, preferably 2lcd's, they help more and help you from the start

<-- 2 years multimedia school learning all sortsof stuff along with working as network admin, 3d as a hobby right now

Thanks, Czar, good post. Only thing I'm considering is selling current system for money to put towards the new one, since I'd be on quite the budget, but I suppose that in final years of school there will be much better components and lower prices, which would benefit me more in the end when I start working. The current system just needs a boost in memory... wish I didn't already get the Geil memory since Newegg is selling 1gb PC3200 Corsair VS memory at the price of 512mb!! Oh well, haha. Thanks for the post, I'll greatly consider it. Any monitor suggestions or stories you've heard/have to tell?

just go for two dells :D
my current setup is one 1901fp and one old 20" artmedia crt, want to get one of those 23" lcd's from dell to replace the crt, check the hot deals forum for deals on 20" dells, think two might fit your price range, you will be the envy of every kid in school :)

Yea I've been looking at those Dell monitors, great stuff there. Also been looking at the Samsung 193P, but it's pricey. Do you think CRT or LCD would be a better visual display? I'm going to better image quality rather than space, so if a CRT will put out better colors and all that stuff for a cheaper price I'm all over that.

it depends, the color accuracy on crt's is better but you get less tired watching lcd's

the difference between the accuracy is not that great, not worth bothering about just yet
you will be pulling very very very long hours doing projects so lcd's will I belive help you

just remember the hardware wont make you better, just hard work :)

I hear that, but can't work if I go blind, hahaha. My current monitor, an old MicronPC 19" CRT, has been hurting my eyes badly lately... maybe should get dual monitors as a high school graduation request, haha. Thanks for the advice and help, man. Appreciated.
