3com winmodem and win XP

I have a dual boot win98/xp setup. I have a USR 56k winmodem that works fine in win98 but in xp it will only connect once and then I have to reboot if I want to connect again. I use At&T dialup service. The modem dial and tries to connect but it times out when trying to verify username and password. Any help would be greately apreciated.

Does the winmodem have XP specific drivers (most updated)? You should check the manufacturer's site.

Yes I have checked that all my drivers are up to date. What I have found is that Zonealarm is what is causing the trouble. apparently Zonaalarm 2.6 is not campatible with XP. you have to upgrade to Zonealarm pro 3.0 for XP campatability.

I use ZoneAlarm with XP. It's compatible. Something else is causing your problem.
