yeah staples search function isnt too hot... i actually found it buy manually maneuvering through the sub categories... this camera is all that and worth it.... its just a rebadged ViCAM so i wouldnt worry too much if 3com got rid of their webcam department.

I was going to say...I been staring at the staples page all day, so wondered why you said they no longer carry it...thought maybe you called and they just haven't updated the site...good deal :) I've been looking for this cam for months hoping the price would come down, but as with most 3com stuff....they rarely drop the price, since their chit rocks :)

Please be noted that 3Com is quiting the ENTIRE webcam bussiness today. This means that the deal may get sweeter and you need to worry about future driver support if you are a Windows user. haha.

here's the news article

Staples.com has a place where you can pricematch without calling the CSR. Once you have an account with them (whether personal or business) log-in and go to "Change your Profile" underneath the banner that says LOGIN. Within there you'll find "Additional Shipping information" header with a Comment field. Within that comment field specify you would like to pricematch items, give item numbers, weblinks and any other information you may have. I just did this with the 3Com webcam and Buy.com...no problems whatsoever. They charged me the $100.95PM - $30.00 coupon and ttl'd $70.95.

Called Staples.com to verify and they said all order placed have the comments section verified for this very reason. Was told by the CSR before and after I placed the order that this would work in lieu of calling them to PM.

Anyone else get called up by frustrated Digimarc telephone people? They wanted to know why I didn't use it more, etc... I mean, come on, who wants to hold up an ad to a camera when you can type in an URL like 100x faster (least I can).

Kalric, you like your cam? I am still trying to decide between this one (the best I hear) and the Kodak one for $47.00 which rivals the 3com...$30 difference, so still on the fence :)

Yea, although it's $30 more than the kodak, I think I'll go with the 3com...always used their modems and love the quality...

I have one of these and I'm very disappointed with the color quality -- black & white pictures look great and have a decent framerate, but there are some pretty severe problems with color noise. The noise is unacceptable at all resolutions, and the colors are very dull and sickly-looking.

I picked up 4 of these cams for a business I was going to start last year and they are really good cams. Got to Vista Imaging and play with the multicam software for these... Fun stuff! I just wish I could find the darn lens pack for a decent price.

In response to an earlier post about 3com "quitting the webcam business," well technically you're correct. But they never engineered the cam in the first place ( ; HomeConnect cams are just rebadged ViCAMs by VistaImaging. Anyhow, I've had this cam for a while and it's great.

Question, however, for you experienced users:
What adjustments do you make to get the best possible picture w/the brightest colors and so forth?

My cam pic never seems to look all that great, and I know with some tweaks the pic can be improved.

hoopdoog, I had to try searching for 3com web, 3com cam, 3com home, etc...forget which one I used, and given the fact I am going to bed, I'll let you have the fun in determining which to use :)

I'm a little confused on the price matching for Staples. I thought that they would pricematch, but they would tack-on the cost of next day delivery on the price they were price-matching? How are you getting them to pricematch without adding on next-day delivery costs?

Because normally all of their (Staples) items are 1-day delivery. Some items that are ordered from a warehouse and are not "in stock" (item number starts with "IM") have a 3-5 day delivery time. Since they can't get the item to you in one day, they can't charge you the 1-day delivery at the place you're pricematching with.

Last week, buy.com had free shipping on electronic stuff costing over $100 and weighing less than 20 lbs...or something like that :)
