That is a SMOKING deal, for a killer webcam (best reviewed in the $150-$200 price range from TechTV I got it two months ago from Amazon for $129 (actually, MCI paid for it, heh) and I couldn't be happier.

This is the best USB-based webcam out there. The image quality & low light operation is what puts it ahead of the rest of the competition; and I'm comparing it to the other webcams in the same price range too (not those cheezy 9.99/free webcams which are just toys for your 5 year old).

I have this camera. It's got a great picture, but caveat emptor - the support sucks! My camera has developed some blemishes in the picture, and repeated attempts to contact support via email, web forms and phone numbers has only led me to be led in circles.

Judging from the picture at undergroup, and that TechTV compared this with Kodak DVC323, I think the Kodak DVC325 from last month might be a better deal, even without the Kodak rebate. Wonder if you can still get it at around $60 though.

Anybody remember the deal with media-something or another? I got this web-cam for $15.00 during a special promotion they were holding. Great camera!! Flea-bayed mine (didn't use it enough) for a nice profit.

<< My camera has developed some blemishes in the picture >>

yeah, but since you got yours for almost free, you can't complain.

My friend has one of the homeconnect cams and loves it...looks ten times better than my cheap old ezonics webcame, so been looking for a price drop...buy.com has had them at that price for a long time, and been waiting for a special...any rebates on this cam now? I didn;t see one posted, and I was unable to find one...

I actaully have both cameras the kodak and the 3com. The 3com is much better, especially in low light. Its image quality is far better as well. the MAJOR problem witht he kodak one is that it doesnt work with SMP machines, it would HARDLOCK my computer every damn time It try to install it on my dual gigahertz box. so I sent it to my G/F.

There are many ways to tweak pictures modify them so they look awsome with photosop and stuff. But since most of us jsut want to turn it on and SNAP a picture or do some netmeeting we cant make it look that good. Linked: are 2 pictures in low light the first one is the kodak and the second one is the 3com

kodak

3com by the way this was taken in much lower light then the above picture

decent lighting with the 3com

the reason Im holding my head is because I just woke up 5 mins ago and my hair is all over the place :)

Buy.com has a nasty habit of raising prices before their "free shipping" specials. The cam is now @ $113.

-Tri

PS. The curious thing is that last night the cam page showed $109, but the search results page for "homeconnect" showed $103. So hey, I guess you just gotta watch it! :)

Here's a tip... wait and watch buy.com... i was doing that for a while and the price FLUCTUATES...it goes from anywhere from 110+ to 101.95! I waited till it went 101.95 and then pm'ed staples like a month ago. GREAT CAMERA... it blows my brothers logitech camera away in terms of image quality and the final kicker... IT ROCKS IN WIN2K!

It's a great webcam especially for w2k machines. I've had mine running for 8 months now w/o a hitch. My only problem with it is the bundled s/w - sucks. Oh well. In case you guys are interested, it looks like 3com is killing their webcam division - Link along with their ill fated Audrey.. (2nd paragraph of the news article). So perhaps we'll see even better prices...

Staples.com no longer carries this so it's a BUM DEAL.

EDIT: I'm a liar, they have it here. You have no idea how many times I've searched their site in the past couple weeks with "homeconnect." I just typed in 3com and it popped right up. Doh!

I feel obligated to say that I did find it and link to it before TallGeese (below) submitted his reply.

I guess I'll have to call them, as they still have it listed on the website, it's in stock, and lets me go all the way through the order process...

for what it's worth, though, the 3com rebate is, in fact, over....

SO.....this is definitely a valid--and BLAZING HOT--deal! My folks, my in-laws, my bro-in-law and my family are using 4 of these to videoconference with each other over the Internet. The low light quality is absolutely stunning compared to other WebCams, and the performance smokes everything else in its class. We paid nearly 2 times this price for these over a year ago.

NOTE: Don't mix up the HomeConnect PC Digital WebCam w/ the HomeConnect PC Digital WebCam *LITE* (completely different product, different case design, weak specs and performance).

GOOD post, df!
