Just did a trade in one of the other forums, which included the 3Com 3C900-Combo. I was supposed to receive the 10/100 card (Fast Etherlink XL), but it ended up being the plain Etherlink XL.:|:(:frown:

Here's the question: I am accessing the internet on a residential DSL line through the Netgear RT314. My intent was to upgrade the card, expecting an improvement in performance.

Yes, I didn't get what I bargained for, but will I be ahead of the game with the 10 Mbps?

Well if your machine is plugged directly into the DSL modem (or in your case to the router, then modem), then I don't beleive it would make any difference in your connection speed. Unless you have an insane DSL speed of over 10Mb a second it won't matter. The connection speed with DSL will be your bottle neck. The main importance for 100Mb is when you have a local network that you would like quicker speeds. I myself have a 1.5/384 DSL speed and have a LAN of 4 computers. All the mchines have 10/100 NICs, but you only see the max of a 100Mb network when connecting to other machines. The dsl is maxed out at the speeds I pay verizon for.

Hope that helps you out.
