I'm sure you can.....but upgrade to what??
Probably anything that fits the socket won't be worth the cost to move to.

More than likely the CPU is soldered to the MB.

Maybe get a 3GHz Turion or something off ebay in 2 years for $50?

Anyone know if this can be upgrade to 2GB of ram? If so, which should be compatible with this?

Edit: Nice find OP! Thanks.

I second that! I think a cheap lappy of the week sticky would be welcome and very useful.

I'm running a Compaq from Office Depot that I picked up for "$299" a couple of months ago. It's a dual core pentium at 1.6Ghz, and it ran circles around my old AM2 Opteron desktop. That $299 was actually $581 in store, and after rebate (which I still haven't received) it will end up being $450ish. Just saying that $399 laptop might cost you a bit more.

So what's the best chance of getting this? Waking up and getting there when they first open this Sunday (May 4th)? Is that what you all plan to do?

I might have to sell this laptop on E-bay....definitely make a profit...check out this POS laptop that sold for $328, it's only a 1GHz P3 10Gb hard drive and 128Mb of memory...fucking unbelievable....$328 for that piece of shit

E-bay link tinyurl deleted

After watching that auction I could sell my old laptop (2.8Ghz P4 60Gb hard drive 512MB of memory) for at least $400 and make all my money back for buying this Staples laptop.

Sorry. We're not a fan of tinyurls due to the potential for abuse. Thanks for understanding.

It is always popular, but is probably better to do a new thread each week. This one reached almost 20 postings in one day, so if it were to be "stickied", it would grow by several pages a week. Anyone seeking CURRENT deals would need to skip over dozens of pages of dead deals to get to the current offerings.

No, we don't really need to know that model XYZ-3250 was $22 cheaper with a coupon last October. What we need to know is what is the best available deal NOW.

Putting the date (week?) in the title or subtitle, the way allisolm did for this thread is plenty.

What do you think the chances of Staples taking that dang OM $100 coupon are? I've got one sitting here but I don't think even my nicest/most reasonable Staples will accept this one.....

What do you mean, I've got a snail mail $ 100 off any clearance, on sale or regular price laptop/desktop at OM that expires 5/24/08. It's an amazing opportunity if you can find anything. That's the big one alot of people are talking about. Actually it appears to be the same one. Look at teh post a few up from ours.....

There is no reason why they would take the Office Max $100 coupon for the laptop, what incentive do they have to accept it, it's not like they won't be able to sell these laptops.

Are you guys going to show up first thing tomorrow morning to try and get one of these? Or can we go today and buy it, then tomorrow when they go on sale, get a price match for the lower price?

Anybody?

Does anyone know if there are Windows XP drivers available for this model?

Under the official HP site, there don't seem to be any except the touch pad drivers.

Assuming this is the computer 'we' are talking about...

I can tell you - just by looking at the pic - that this is your basic rebadged Compal lappy.

Compal is the General Motors of the notebook world... 🙂

When it comes to HP, I prefer Compaq/Compal lappys - they're tougher than the rest of the HP notebooks, and have less problems!

If you can't find XP drivers at HP for this lappy, start looking around at other "manufacturer" sites.

I put that in quotes because NOBODY makes their own lappys these days. All lappys are made in 7 or 8 factories in China regardless of the logo on the case (by rural farm girls 'cause they can tolerate longer hours and are easier to control than whiny urban men - but that's another story) - and Compal is one of the biggest and best!

That said...

As an example, I'm running a Toshiba A215 lappy, which is also made by Compal - and the Toshiba/Compal touch pad drivers that Toshiba offers on their support site suck big time - out-of-date and totally featureless, they are...

I simply went over to Dell and downloaded their Dell/Compal touch pad drivers - which are up-to-date and LOADED with features.

I offer these screenies as proof-of-concept:

My Toshiba came with an ALPS touch pad, not the more typical SYNAPTICS unit, so make sure you install the correct drivers when you mix n' match!

Anyway, I'll stop there, since this is only a 'Hot Deals' thread... 😀

Happy hunting...
