At least in BF3 Multiplayer, we're talking probably a 40 fps increase in minimums and maximums.

I knew something was up when I was only seeing 70-80% gpu usage with my old i7 920. These cards are running in the high 90's now all the time. Absolutely loving it!

What resolution?

BF3 multiplayer likes CPU cores. In a lot of other games you won't see anywhere near such an increase in fps.

Are you running the 3930K at stock? What about the 920, was it OC'd?

edit: also I think this thread belongs in the CPU section

3930K @ 4.5Ghz, i7 920 was at 4.0Ghz.

And I am seeing much higher gpu usage/ fps in a number of other games, but obviously ones that are more CPU limited. These increases just make me so excited, wasn't completely sure it was going to be worth the move to X79.

That's weird because all my gpu's run 99% with my i7 920 at 4GHZ. I am going to do the same upgrade as soon as my bonus arrives.

Are u sure its not psychological? Assuming ur monitor is 60hz, anything above 60fps won

I've got a 120hz monitor (well three of them) but I only use one for BF3.

And I'm telling you my video cards (while using the exact same drivers as before) are far exceeding their usage % than with my i7 920.

Oh, and Shogun 2 is way faster too.

Nice Rig :)

How are the fans behaving on the 670s? Do they grind away at idle?

I tested my i7-860@3.5 with 670SLI and I was only seeing 40% scaling in BF3. So, no, the OP isn't making this up.

I am getting slightly higher cpu usage with my 3770k at 4.1ghz....not much but there is a rare occasion when i hit like 92% maybe sometimes but that is when my minimum is hitting like 65fps or something like that.

Minimums are either cpu related or driver related but there was another guy who built a rig like the Op and was boosting about how it made zero difference over the 1155 chip he used...

Hi there. I want to stop the bad information right away because this will lead to some people wasting money. I had a 2600K with 2x 670's and moved to 3930K hoping for higher min fps in BF3 multiplayer. It didn't increase by even a single FPS.
The increase you are seeing is because you are using a sandy bridge cpu vs your old chip. The game uses 4 cores at a maximum despite what task manager shows you. Disable 2 cores in bios and check your FPS again.

I was only getting max 70% usage from 670 SLI in BF3 from the rig in my sig. Maybe it was throttling down because of temps? They were hitting 65-70C, so I'm not sure.

I guess the OP's 3 monitors are really letting the 670's stretch their legs.

Lovely PC you have there and love the case too..

I'd like to point out that I am not currently running with Surround enabled, so these gains are in 1080 only, I expect the gains at 5760X1080 to be less.

Thanks man.

The Gtx 670 fans seem no worse than all the other blower style cards that I have owned in the past, in general the system is pretty loud though as I have alot of high airflow fans installed in the Cosmos.
