The 50" that came first was interesting, but this 39" is more practical as a monitor and has a much higher PPI. Higher even than a 27" or 30" monitor at 1440p or 1600p respectively.

With a price in the same range as the Korean IPS monitors and A- grade panels the trade off is refresh rate for resolution...and most likely a lower quality panel. For the price I think this would be a great option for now as long as you aren't a demanding FPS gamer. In a few years when we have higher quality options and proper 60Hz+ input you can get something else.

I'll wait til they bring out the sets with HDMI 2.0. The spec is complete and I'm sure the newer tv's will come with it bringing the 60hz refresh rate.

3840x2160 is 4k? I thought 4k would refer to the second number like all 720 and 1080, so it would be _____ x 4000 something. ^^

The marketing boys called it 4k, due to having 4 times the number of pixels at 1920x1080, or something.

Should have just called it 2160p. Awful lot of shenanigans with TV marketing these days. I think I saw a tv that advertised "true 240hz sps" (scenes per second, lol). Works out to 60hz.

Actually, 4k does not stand for four times resolution of 1920x1080.. If it was, it should have indeed called 4x instead. But it's actually the first number (horizontal resolution) being rounded up/down to 4k or 4000.

That's why there are several different resolutions of 4k; 3840x2160, 4096x2160, 4096x1714, 4096x3072, etc. All the first numbers rounded to 4k.

Marketing gimmick, regardless :p If some company makes a monitor with 3500x540, they will probably call it 4k monitor!!

Great monitor if you need to have a bunch of text on the screen. But I think it currently has a firmware bug where it does not correctly do 120Hz at 1080p. (Drops frames) and well yeah the 30Hz at 4K kills it for gaming.

I'm holding off for Seiki or the Koreans to build a controller board that accepts 4K 60Hz from DP.

Would this be a good monitor for mostly web browsing, text editing, programming, and the occasional web video or skype?

Does this monitor not have DisplayPort inputs either? That seems pretty wierd to me, for a supposed "4K" monitor.

I think because it is a TV and not a monitor, it just has HDMI and a VGA input. Personally, I am waiting for real monitors to be released. I am not sure about the panel used in this one.

The HDMI 1.4 limits 4k at 30hz. We'll have to wait til HDMI 2.0 gets adopted by the industry.
