3870 DirecTV DVR

Just got DirecTV, turned down the DVR option. What I would like to do is either have a splitter or separate hdmi cable go to my computer to record shows when I can't be at home to watch.
Looks like the new 48xx series will copy the sound from the Hdmi to DVI converter.

Anyone know if the 3870 will do the same? If not I may need to purchase the 4850 and put the 3870 into Crossfire config on second box (Also has a 3870).

Thanks!

It'd be a tough project. Not that I know much about it, but cable companies tend to make extra sure that the TV programs are not saved on anything other than their DVRs. You may want to ask in Audio/Video Forum.

The 38xx/48xx have HDMI -out- not -in-. You probably knew that, but just making sure.

Newer ATI cards have their own sound chips for sending sound over HDMI. They don't do Dolby Digital Live though, so games will only be stereo. Programs recorded with a capture card will also only be stereo unless you find one that does 5.1 encoding as dolby or dts.
