What some of you are forgetting is that NE is the industry leader, and when they raise prices significantly over MSRP, other, smaller outfits follow suit.

The time is ripe for a smaller outfit to set the standard and provide the goods and services at fair prices, generating sales and widely expanding their customer base.

Just like NE did years ago.

I think that we are quickly becoming spoiled.

We have the 8800GT, with MSRP of $250, selling for $300 and more, right...?

How about the performance of this card...? Well, in some cases, and with the proper OC, it is as fast as 8800GTX.

Let's go back only 1 month, to October 24, 2007.

8800GTX - between $500 - $650,
8800GTS 640 - between $350 - $450,
8800GTS 320 - between $250 - $320.

So only 1 month ago people were willing to spend $600 on a card that today costs around $300, and everyone is angry because it was initially $250?

C'mon, people, gimme a break. I think you are angry because it is unavailable, even at the inflated prices...

Just remember, you can still get the 8800GTX, and it will give you approximately the same performance... at a price.

EDIT: OK, this is the 3870 thread, but the same applies to 3870 and X2900.

The price to performace ratio matters, but most want it to work to their advantage and not against them. MSRP is fair. Anything less is a bonus. Anything more is economics, but can easily be construed as exploitation. That's as unbiased as I can put it. Fair is fair...

And for what it's worth, I've emailed Newegg's Public Relations department with comments and a link to this thread...

The way its going, Walmart/Best Buy/Circuit City/any retailer here, on the next big hot item (Playstation 3/XBOX360) will not sell them at MSRP. They will sell what the market will bare. No need to go to ebay to get gouged or for the richest person to get the hot new item. Places like newegg are setting the example that is to follow in a capitalist society. If you don't want your local B&M stores to gouge, stop supporting the asshats who are gouging online!

just my 2,000 cents.

All the other e-tailers do the same!

If you show me lower prices across the internet, with MWave, Tiger Direct, ClubIt and others being considerably cheaper, I will understand.

But we always go to Newegg first, have preferred accounts etc., so the anger is directed at them, right...?

If you guys were "Newegg", you would do exactly the same...

No one refuses a possibility of higher income...

It's like you refusing the pay raise...

It's not just the prices.

OK, I understand that there are some changes in their CS system.

They have always been great with me (well, 1 time, when I had to RMA the RAM...).

But it is easy to point out the negative - price gouging etc...

Let's talk about who we are going to buy from now...?!?

Tell me, who is better than Newegg, with prices and Customer Service...?

If you find one, I will gladly follow...

the thing is, I used to be an exclusive newegg customer. I bought 5000$ worth of components a year on their website for several years in a row... I wanted something to do with computers, I went on newegg, looked it up in less then 5 minutes, hit add to cart and payed with my card on file.
I also told EVERYONE I know that the only way to purchase computer parts is from newegg... No point in looking ANYWHERE else.

This trust in them was broken due to the following things:
1. Price gouging
2. Restocking fee for regular items, and then restocking fees for returning a defective part for refund. (It used to be that I could return an item with "oops I bought the wrong thing" and get no restocking... only loose the shipping costs both ways)
3. No refund policy on high demand parts like the 8800GT and 3870 (which I might not have noticed in time and bought).
4. No replacement/refund policy on lcd monitors WELL after it has become standard anywhere else... my last couple of dell monitors didn't even have a SINGLE dead pixel... and places like costco etc will let me return a monitor for a refund regardless, AND open it in the store to check for dead pixels.
5. I forgot...

The thing is, I trusted them. They broke my trust. So now I shop around... Do I boycot newegg? no, I still buy from them from time to time. But now its only one item in many, as each item is usually cheapest on another etailer / retailer.

Newegg's really pissed me off waiting for their newesletter with promo codes which I never get lately .After I complained by email they basiclly told me to F*** Off.Thanks Mr Torres
Trying to cancel a order now requires a phone call now?
notice when they jack up prices their website is shot for awhile, like now?Yeah They want you to leave a review .if its negative,it'll never make it.ha1

Yes... some of my reviews have mysteriously disappeared....

Thats a big point... when newegg was new it was a pleasure to do business with them.. customer support was no1... now they are the industry leader so they screw you over and it doesn't matter.. enough people still shop there.

This reminds me... what other sites are there to buy from?
The only other etailer I know is tiger direct... and it has a hard to navigate site (compred to the egg).

Anyone else with a really good navigation / item location system who is currently trying to gain market share by being awesome to their customers?

I'm very satisfied with ClubIT.com. Unfortunatly they've followed suit with high prices on GT's, but who hasn't. For everything else their pricing is good, shipping is cheap, and they pack items very well.

Nobody's going to beat Newegg overall, especially when it comes to searching and reading reviews. But you can can use Newegg to do research, then order from somone else. That's what I've been doing as much as possible since the Q6600 gouging..

walmart went through some serious growing pains over the years, and it seems that newegg is going through similar pains on a smaller scale. as many of us have mentioned, newegg built their rep on low prices and great customer service. That's awesome, but the more customers you have, the more pissed off customers you'll have, too. On most items most of the time they have the best deal or VERY close to the best deal. For many of us, that's good enough when you factor in their great shipping/service/etc vs an unknown online retailer. If the etailer that is a few bucks cheaper is mwave, clubit, td or another "B-tier" company that you've had good success with, it often makes sense to go with them instead. I sometimes do and I've never regretted it, but no matter how mad I get at newegg for selling items over msrp I always seem to find my way back to them.

agreed, I'm running out of places that have no tax, and free shipping sometimes is icing. i'll just wait for prices and supply to stabilize.

There are plenty of other places to shop:
ZipZoomFly
mWave
ClubIT
Directron
Jab-Tech (great prices on CPU coolers and customer service may very well be better than at newegg)
SVC
ewiz
Monoprice (no1 place to for cables)

These are just few e-retailers that I've dealt with in the past 5 years and all of them have been great for me.
