Go for a real upgrade, the HD 38XX series and the 8800GT/GS/GTS 640 are too close in performance to call them as an upgrade, not even the 8800GTS 512MB or GTX are much faster to call them a real upgrade, the last two ones are faster though, but not enough to justify their current price and performance difference, go for a HD 4850 which offers the most bang for the buck.

Like the other posters here said, I dont think there would be much of a performance difference at your resolution between those two cards.

Do you have a budget ? And do you prefer ATI or Nvidia ?

Well, the only thing that was swaying me towards nvidia was the overclocking warrentee, but i am on a budget of about £120. Team fortress 2 and all other valve games are really buggy and mabi this is caused by ati?

I have an ATI card....Actually, up till now, I have had 8 ATI cards, and 2 Nvidia cards. And whether it was on the ATI or the Nvidia, I have never had any problems with TF2 or Half Life 2 for that matter.

What is your exchange rate for currency ? Or better put....what is that in American ? :)

£120 is about $220-240.

Im working from home today but when I get a chance, Ill look at some of the UK prices.

At launch, I got an HD4870 for £190 which was cheap.... thats around $360 which would have made all you Americans go crazy.
