wait, the 3700sandiego is clocked at 2.2ghz
while the opteron146 is clocked at 2.0ghz. ARGH I want to know which one can overclock to higher stable speeds with standard hs/f

If you can get your hands on an Opteron 146 either CABYE, CABNE, or CAB2E stepping, you can get some serious OCs. I am currently sitting at 2.8GHz on stock voltage on air.

Is ther anyway that I can be sure before buying if the Processor is going to be CABYE, or CABNE, or CAB2E, or CABGE (noo)
and which one should I get for the best bang for the buck? 144/146/148? Do they all overclock to around 2.9ghz? Or do the 148 overlock higher?
Thanks.

AFIK the 148's OC about the same, to 2.8-3.0, provided they're not cabbage. As far as a retailer being able to tell you, I don't think anyone but TankGuys does and they are all out of the chips until at least January. According to what I have read, the cabbage batch was a very small batch and was gone a while back, and most (if not all) places have CAB2E's now. I would suggest if you can find a place that has a 146/148 in stock, buy it. You' should get a CAB2E, or a CABYE if you are lucky.
