Well, first.. you need to compare the size of the CRX to a hybrid.

Second, it would be wise to consider power/acceleration.

You're comparing apples to oranges.

Actually, if you look closely at the Honda hybrid (not the newer one based on the current Civic sedan), it IS a CRX.

I still remember the commercials with a deflated CRX being pumped up in the desert.

In my opinion hybrid is nothing special. Honda was on their way to doing better MPG on straight gasoline. Hybrids should be in the 100s.

You're still comparing apples to oranges. Hybrid technology DOES increase MPG significantly.

Hybrid is here to stay, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see it on virtually all new cars within the next 10 years.

I dunno about virtually all, but definitely an increasing amount. A stranger today was talking to me at the pump about gas prices. I've never had that before. Obviously they're starting to piss people off 😉 At least ford is making a real vehicle into a hybrid with the escape (prius is ok, but it's just an echo. The insight is unusably small). Hopefully we'll see more large vehicles using it!

Insane? hahahaha, well maybe, but still not impressed with hybrids. If you can do the same or better with regular gasoline then the hybrids should be doing around twice what you can do on regular gas. The cost doesn't justify the tech. Just buy a used Civic.

My 2000 Si gets 28mpg on premium in mixed driving. But I just got it, just learning to drive stick, and really using the VTEC. So hopefully I'll get 31 out of it like the EPA. Also coming up to the 60k maintenance, so that should help. But at premium for 2.29$ an hour

Hybrid technology is relatively new, and will get better = higher and higher mpg as it develops, especially if that maddeningly elusive breakthrough in battery thechnology ever develops.

Then there's hydrogen fuel.

Still, those older Honda HF's were and still are absolutely amazing.

I had to allow the cookie for Childs site - the EPA mpg for the 1991 CRX HF was 49 city/ 52 highway!!! Still, I seem to remember a 55mpg posting for an earlier model year (one of their many tricks were extremely skinny tires = less rolling resistance). Gonna go see if I can punch up the proof.😀

Edit: Hee, hee, 1989 Civic (four door sedan!) HF clocks in at 50 mpg city / 56 mpg highway!!!😛

Didn't ford just get their tech from Toyota? Or was that GM?

The lexus RX is getting it. I think the GS and LS is also getting it.
