37" LCD $697 shipped FRYS DEAD FOR NOW

Emprex? Never heard of them. But for <$700 it looks like an impressive amount of screen real estate...
 
The Emprex boxes I saw at Fry's were BOTTOM BASEMENT looking cheap. Like cheapest plastics you'd find in super cheap toys.
 
Just pulled the trigger... wow, my first HDTV!

Now I need to find a stand and a way to mount my huge center speaker... off to avsforums. 🙂

I'd rather spend another couple hundred and know I'm getting at least a known brand with a likely better warranty and last longer. Either way let us know how they are.

with an AMEX card you get a 2 year warrenty apparently.

I am sure FRY's will warrenty this thing out too.

Im not sure how long.

Amex will extend/double the manuf. warranty up to one year. They
won't do anything until the original warranty is over then they'll either replace your item or refund the money.

They process is relatively stress-free and for me it came in handy with a Dell laptop that went bad about 6 months out of warranty. Even though my original purchase price was $1650, Amex gave me a $1500 credit after 1.5 years when they couldn't find new parts for the repair.

Wow, that's an incredible warranty for computer equipment. To recoup 91% of the purchase price IN CASH when the laptop was at least 1.5 years old (Dell's minimum warranty, right?) is pretty incredible. If it went back to Dell under warranty they'd probably just replace the defective component.

The tech in the new laptop you could have potentially bought would have run circles around the original $1650 unit.

I guess that's good thing for some of us... I was just about going to purchase it with my AMEX business card; it's good price but I could really save the money and use it else where.
 
I passed because was 37in at 1366res.
1366x768 might cut it with a 32in LCD but 37in is too big for that low of a res, nevermind most would probably be running content to it at 1280x720 with slight scaling degradation.
Would have been fine for a TV but would wants a $700 tv? I wanted a multipurpose screen that can do everything- including 1080p from PC and future devices also...
SO the sceptre naga 37in is still on my watch list 😉
Hard to justify spending over $500 on anything if it doesnt do everyhting you would want it for but damn- it was a great deal!
 
these cheaper LCD use b grade panels from the good companies.

i generally wouldnt' buy an el cheapo tv, and would just spend the extra $300 to get a good one. why? becuaes how often do you buy a new tv anyway.

I trust the real-world experience of those on the avsforums that bought this for > $1000 and claim it was a good deal.

Besides, my plan is to use this as my primary TV for about 1-2 years. Then at that point, 1080p will be the standard throughout every HDTV for a much cheaper pricepoint. Realistically I hope to get a decent 42" 1080p set for < $1000 at this time next year.

Quite often, actually. TV's like computers evolve quickly.
 
I guess this is dead. The link just goes back to the main page for me, and searching for the TV reveals a $1200 price.
