360 Transfer Kit - Not working?

So my original launch console bit the dust again (RRoD, obviously) and I bought a new Slim model with the 250gb HD. I have the transfer kit, but I'm not getting the "Transfer Kit found" prompt that I'm told I should. I recovered my gamertag and signed into Live to make sure my system was up to date - still no dice.

When I go into the memory settings I can see that two devices are listed, the 250gb HD, and a USB device. When I unplug/plug the old 20gb hard drive the USB drive disappears/reappears so I know it's seeing it. Only thing is...no prompt. When I try to select the USB drive, it says it's not formatted, and asks if I want to configure it (which I didn't of course).

I thought, "Hey, maybe I can just plug my 20gb HD back into my friend's spare box and transfer out to the new 250gb drive!" but the new drive has a completely different connection. Imagine that.

Anyone else run into this, and how did you take care of it?

Thanks for the link but the only thing I had was a transfer cable...that I spent 4 dollars on! I grabbed a friend's USB hard drive and formatted that to use in the transfer. Got it all taken care of that way.
