360, Ps3, or Wii Features...

I was just wondering since the current generation consoles have multiple uses, who uses them and why? Such as the 360 has video marketplace, game demo download's, emulated arcade games, video chat, etc...

Please list all the extra features that you USE on your 360, Ps3, or Wii that does not involve inserting a game disc and playing...

360
-----
-Marketplace for Free content (Trailers, Demos). I have yet to buy anything. I don't personally have anything against purchasing an item online, it is just that the prices are still to expensive compared to alternate methods.
-Media Center Extender from my Vista Box. Great for getting my DVR-MS files down to the big screen plasma without needing and HTPC. 🙂

PS3
-----
-Blu Ray Player. This is actually the biggest use of the PS3.
-I'm going to start using this to host a bunch of media files so that i can stream them straight to my PSP.
-Like XBOX, PSN Store for Free stuff.
-PS2 backwards compatibility. I have no need of this feature on the 360 because I had an original xbox. Going through the library of PS2 games I never played has kept me busy while waiting for the PS3 to get some good games.

It's funny, I own 2 Sony Consoles (PS3, PSP) and I use neither for playing games that are meant for that console. 🙂

On the 360, I used the demo downloads only. I have a HTPC for everything else, but I used the media center extender to fire up some music during GoW matches every now and then. The 360 is a bit too crippled to replace a full fledged HTPC for me - it's too limited in setup, requires MS everything, and doesnt work with divx or x264.

On the Wii, I still use the voting channel every few days. It's silly and the questions are often beyond stupid, but every now and then there's some shockers and it's interesting to see how it's different across the nation. There was recently a question: "What worse to have stolen from you, things or ideas? I voted things, and predicted things. Ideas actually edged out things by a few percentage points. Looked at the map of the US (I'm from NYC), and noticed that the Northeast and Nevada (Vegas, lol) were the main places that voted for things. Guess we're all materialistic bastards. 😛

The news channel is interesting, presented very well, but it needs a little more pictures/multimedia before I'm really going to use it.

And I dunno if the Mii Channel counts, but I use it all the time.

I gotta say Ideas on that one. Things can be replaced. Once an Idea is stolen, you can never claim it again.

As for the 360, Tversity has rendered my HTPC almost completly obsolete. 🙂

Wii - I use it for absolutely 0 extra features, not even to play games honestly heh.

Xbox360 - It's my primary DVD player. I also use it to keep in touch w/my half brother and a bunch of other friends. It's kind of like AIM in a way. I also watch .wmv video files on it off of a USB stick or DVD-R. I also use the XBLA and Demos too.

360:

Demos/game videos
Now that there is background downloading I download/rent movies when there is a good one on there I want to see.
DVD player
Stream music while gaming
Stream videos/pictures to show friends on the big screen.

You stole my story. I want you to fix it.

360:

Demos
Movie trailers
Chat & Messaging
Rented a couple of movies in HD
XBLA (if that counts as not putting in a disc?)

PS3:

BR player
Demos
Movie trailers
Downloadable games
Web browser (PC is upstairs, so the PS3 is a good for some quick browsing when I'm too lazy to go upstairs)
Streaming music (like it better than the 360's set-up)
I've run F@H a few times

Wii:

Not much really. I've browsed the weather channel a couple of times, but the info is often many hours old so is generally worthless. The browser is OK, but the resolution sucks compared to the PS3 browser. If only I could use the Wiimote with the PS3 browser.

I've got plenty of good ideas. I've only one plasma TV.

Besides, you can't steal someone's Ideas anyway...you can borrow them and take credit for them perhaps, but it's not like you lost anything.

PS3:

Blu-ray player
DVD-upscaling player
PS2 games
Video/audio streaming media center
F@H
Sometimes web browsing
Demos/Trailers

I would probably say ideas, because I am going to assume this is not just an idea of diving into a pool or something stupid. But more like a million dollar idea. You could potentially lose much more by losing an idea than a TV.

Since when has PS3 started upscaling DVDs? That was something I really wanted in the system(I never have gotten one, and that is partly to blame.)

360
- I use the video marketplace occasionally. Always when there is any free content.
- Xbox Live Arcade - as much as possible
- Game demos - as much as possible
- Media Center Extender - as much as possible
- Messaging - to contact friends

The latest firmware did, about 2 weeks ago. It also upscales PS1 and PS2 games.

Wii
- Occasionaly I use it to browse videosift.com
- Its awsome for last.fm, seems like they made it just for the wii 🙂

From what I can tell, the upscaling doesn't really improve on the source at all (unlike Xbox BC which is more like patching than BC). The PS2 upscaling is more to benefit those whose LCD's did not take well to 480i sources. Because we have a CRT, the difference is negligible.

do any of you know if the DDR games work on PS3? Does the adapter take well to it? I love the upscaling idea becasue my TV is a DLP and has a slight delay for non HD games, due to my TV doing a conversion of its own. But if the PS3 were to upscale PS2 games, it should take the delay away fully. I always loved DDR, but since I got my TV, I can't play them anymore.

On my Wii I occasionally hit up the voting channel or the internet and I've used the photo channel a few times too but that's about it.

I do play games on it quite often though.

There are no ingame adjustments? Guitar hero 2 supports HDTV delay.

I have DDR Max 1 and 2, and neither has in game adjustments at all.
