Just bought the new xbox. I'm going to plug it up to my 24" monitor via HDMI but how do I get sound to my xbox? HDMI takes care of both right(a/v noob)?

The speakers are a set of thx 5.1 logitech's. I had them hooked up to my monitor/speakers on my old xbox with the vga cable that has RCA cables on it.

if your monitor has speakers than yes, hdmi will take care of it.

if not you'll have to some splicing to remove the rubber off the a/v connector and plug that in the you use can the rca cables.

pretty sure. Not everyone has hdmi equipped tvs. whether the older cables work I don't know.

they may have modified things so you can use both the a/v port and hdmi without any cutting.

The slim still has the old a/v port. From what I remember it's right above the HDMI port. The included composite cable has a little plastic flap that covers up the HDMI port when installed, but as I don't have any HDMI tv's I didn't look at closely enough to see if just cutting that flap off would allow you to use both at the same time or if you'd need to cut off more. It also now has the optical port on the back of the box instead of part of the a/v cable.

I use HDMI and the RCA for audio to my wireless headphones. I had to completely remove the plastic enclosure around the a/v cable. No issues in over a year with it like that.
