35c IDLE too hot for AMD64 3000+?

Hi all,

as the ambient temperature is rising a bit over here (UK) my CPU IDLE temp seems to have risen a little... it now idles @ 34-35c... load is still sub 50c

is it ok to have it constantly @ 35 or more?

At 1.5v on stock air cooling that seems reasonable to me.

Yeah, I only needed 1.5v to push over 2.6Ghz on my Week 17 Venice. I'm at about 1.45 at 2.6Ghz now for over 8 months. I'll have to check that when I get home. Been so long since I messed with it.

Did you burn it in? After an overnight Prime95 run, I was able to scale back from nearly 1.5 at 2.6Ghz with no stability loss.

Anyway, anything over 45C load failed Prime95 - and by that I mean it wouldn't do the 10 hours I expected it to do to call it stable. At 50C, it would only do a few minutes of Prime95. My chip hates any temps over 45C. It loads at 43/44 at its current speed/voltage on a CNPS7000b.

1.5v sounds a bit high for that clock. If you haven't already, burn it in with Prime95 for a good 10+ hours, and see if that doesn't let you scale back the volts a bit at the same clockspeed. You might be surprised what you find, and the lower temp you can get, the better.

My stock A64 3200+ runs at 30C idle so I don't see how an Oc'd at 35 could be bad.

have managed to re-clock at a lower voltage... it seems if i go for 8*300 = 2400mhz my CPU demands more juice (and is less stable) than if i go for 270*8 =2430mhz!?!

BIOS VCORE now set @ 1.425 but shows a little higher with windows monitors i.e. CPU-Z & Speedfan! - think this a feature of the ASUS A8N-sli ?

You guys are way too sensitive about temps. 35C is only 95.2F. That's cooler than your own body. Do you guys expect the chip to run at room temperature?

my 3800+ @ 2.7ghz on 1.56 idles @ 38C..

Not bad at all at 35.

What i found with asus boards from a number that i used, is that they overvolt the cpu, and i have found this with any asus board i have used to date, which equates to about 4 - 5.

My second comps board has no voltage udjustment, but it runs the cpu at 1.45 v.

35C idle is nothing to worry about. And if your load temps stay under 50C then it's also normal.

Your temps are fine stop worrying. My 146 opteron at 2.8ghz and 1.43v does 35c Idle.

yes. yes I do.

looking at MBM5 right now, idling at 21C...loads 34-35C. Highest temp are PWMIC/chipset/GPU @ 34/36/35C

need some help
i have a venice 3000+ and its idling at 42C and loads aroung 52-53C at stock
even when i oc its still about the same
I am wondering whats wrong with it, shouldnt it be alot cooler at stock?(around35C)
doesnt matter wat i do it stay around that temp.
I even tried blowing a 8000btu air condition next to an open case and it only dop like 2C
lol(room temp is around 18C)
i read soo many people have stock cooling and still have much cooler cpu temperature

I just noticed my Newcastle is at 1.49v, which would PROBABLY explain why I idle at 49C and load at 53C.

Was about to say the exact same thing, im gonna say it anyways... No its below your body temperature, strap a heatsink to yourself, your around 38-39C.

newcastles stock voltage is 1.5 volts
Its the 130nm part, lol so ur voltage is fine

but if u can undervolt it sure try cause it will reduce the temps.

Do you have a DFI eXpert board or a board with a bad sensor? Because if that's on air the temps are almost surely bugged, unless your room is 14c.

anyway, idle in the 30s and load in the 40s is totally normal

CPUs are rated for happy daily usage past the 50s. 60 is hot but i don't think it's killed anything yet.

Well that makes a bit more sense then. All I ever hear about are the Venices, which makes me jealous and leaves me with little knowledge of the Newcastle other than 130nm. >_>;;

Still, I've heard that's way too hot for it anyways. XD

Actually ur temps are fine, the 130nm athlons run considerably hotter than the 90nm ones. The 130nm ones run same as northwoods and not quite as bad as the preshots .
As long as u keep it bellow 60C it is fine.

Newcastles, clawhammers and winchester, u dont hear much of them anymore.

What? Are you crazy? I have the bomb diggity Opty 170 that idles at 50 degrees Fahrenheit in a 64 degrees Fahrenheit room. I have the most awesome air cooled system!

Seriously, I have had people argue that their air cooled/watercooled cpus were operating below room temperature. (Regular watercooled not chilled water)

Edit: Forgot to voice my opinion at OP's original question. I think a cpu idling (especially overclocked) in the 30's idle and 40's under load is just fine. The voltage is the more worrisome component of the overclock with those temps.
