With all the gun threads lately, I thought I'd show off my new baby. Brought it home yesterday.

Smith and Wesson Model 19-4, 6" barrel. I can hardly wait to get out to the range this weekend and put a few rounds through it. Just a lovely, lovely weapon.

Arggh...

I want a subcompact, but I also want something that'll shoot .223 or 7.62x39. I also want a semi 12ga, and now you've rekindled my needs for the S&W 686+ 7shot.

Sure you're not compensating for something with that hand-cannon?:p

Don't mind me, I'm just jealous. Very pretty, those. BTW, how hard is it to be accurate with that much kick? How about shot-to-shot time? I've only really fired rifles and shotguns, so I don't have a good comparison.

..ahh. it's made by Ruger. All the better.

Sold as a trail gun for dangerous game country, the Ruger Super RedHawk Alaskan is a big-bore 6-shot revolver with a very short 2.5 inch barrel. It is available chambered for either .454 Casull and .45 Colt, or .480 Ruger. It?s a hell of a big bang that fits in your pocket.

You bastard. Now I'm going to pick up that S&W M&P Compact 9mm and the Remington 870 12 gauge pump just to piss you off. Or maybe I'll really go all out and pick up the S&W 627...

Doubt it. N-frames are made by SW.

Nice! I used to own a 686 with a 5" barrel.

I sold it years ago and always regretted it. Now of course all the new S&W revolvers come with that stupid locking mechanism built in. :|

I have a model 629 in .44 Magnum with an 8" barrel though. :D

Nice wheel gun. I'm going to pick up a S&W M&P 9mm Subcompact today after work... I can't wait to take it to the range and put some led down field, so I know how ya feel. Give us a range report once you get the chance to shoot it.

That gun doesn't kick as much as you'd think and those Pachmayr grips help tame recoil quite a bit too.

I think you're thinking of the S&W Mountain Gun. A friend of mine has one in .44 Magnum, now that is a punishing gun to shoot.

I have 2 Model 19's. A 2" stub and a 4". Both are blued with wood grips. My dad carried the 4" when he was TXDPS.

First rule of revolver shooting, cross your thumbs. Failure to do so could cause you to lose one!

I dont have pics of alll my wheelguns, but this one is by far my favorite combo. Virginian Dragoon in .44 Mag with a Winchester Trapper series .44 Mag rifle. Just a lovely, lovely combo.

I shot a .357 revolver like that one the other day. They are a blast. (pun intended). Boy do they make you feel powerful.

With a 6" barrel, there's almost no kick at all, even from a .357 round (most of the time I'll shoot .38 Special with it though, less expensive and less likely to over-penetrate in a home defense situation). That's one reason I like the long-barrel. It's also really accurate; if the 627 with a 5" barrel is any indication, I'll shoot about a 3" group at 10 yards once I get the sights dialed-in, which is about as far away as I'd ever be in a home-defense situation.

Shot-to-shot time is essentially zero if one fires double-action. Even single-action is damn fast once one gets the hang of it.

I'll give a full range report after Saturday's visit.

Nice revolver. Personally if I was to get a 357 it'd be the 627 8 shot one.

Having shot one, I have to say that if money were not an object the 627 is where it's at. But I could buy 3 model 19's for the cost of 1 627. :p

I picked up a Winchester lever action rifle in .44 Magnum a couple years ago. I was stunned by how much that thing kicks actually so I put a decent recoil pad on it to tame it a bit.

BTW-Nice combo.
