350Z Transmission problems???

I've been reading reviews on the 350Z and I've been finding a lot of complaints about bad transmissions on them. I was wondering if anybody has heard/experienced any problems with the 350Z and their transmissions. Several of them said the dealership replaced the transmissions under warranty, but a brand new car should not be having those kind of problems. I'm considering maybe buying one in the near future. If I can scrape enough together that is.

i hadnt heard that... on the manual or auto?

its a new car-- but the engine (and i'm assuming tranny-- same as in maxima?) has been around for a while.

might jsut be all these people buying a new car, and driving the hell out of in the first 1000 miles without waiting to break the engine in-- and messing things up.

My friend has a 350z with a manual transmission and hasn't had a problem. Only really sucky thing about his was the Bose stereo system. He got the head unit ripped out this past weekend. I can't believe Nissan put a sh*tty bose system in the car.

Thats always it thought. You will always hear about more people bitching about a new car has problems and people whose car is fine.

Who goes on forums and says, my brand new car has no problem.s. They are going to go about their business and enjoy their new

Bought my new 6sp Z a couple of weeks ago and haven't had any problems with it at all. There were reports of earlier Z's (low VINs) having some transmission problems along with other build problems (alignment, greasy windows, etc) but it appears they've been fixed at the factory line recently. My Z was built in June.

The greasy window problem still exists. My friends Z which was built in April or May, has the grease issue. I forgot about that problem.

You people are so quick to assume people are nagging instead of there being a real problem... that is what people thought about the RSX-S transmission problem... then Acura put out a fix for it.

I though the tranny and engine were shared with the Maxima? It's been a proven design, I doubt it'd be common to fail within 1000 miles if that is the case.

You drive it nicely for a few thousand miles. You don't redline the engine. Drive it easy.

For one, manufacturers usu have there own thing, but it generally goes by these rules.

Don't redline it untill about 1000mi at least.
Don't stay at one particular RPM for very long. Like when on the freeway, do not cruise at one speed too long. Vary the rpms.
Umm...thats about all I can remember.

if you drive it hard enough, it could happen.


but we dont know the cicumstances of any of these people that are complaining. I havent heard anything bad about them yet-- but thats not to say it cant happen.

Thats only true if its an import. If somebody asked the same question about a domestic everybody would be calling it a POS.

Do transmissions even have a break in period? I don't believe they do.

I received my 6MT 350Z back in March, and haven't had any transmission problems yet. A lot of those with problems had earlier builds, which is unfortunate.

Well it's good to hear from a couple of Z owners their cars have been working fine. You could be right about people just driving them too hard, but I have a feeling there may have been a problem like a couple of you said with the earlier cars.
Boogak, you said it was the lower VIN's that had the problems? What was the range of those VIN's? I'll definitely be checking the VIN's on the ones I look at when I actually start shopping for a Z. Thanks dudes.

Absolutely beautiful! I love the styling of the new Z, and it looks especially good in this blue.

The Maxima may indeed share the same basic engine and transmission, but the layout is completely different - transverse FWD vs. longitudinal RWD. Many different connecting pieces, so if it's one of those causing the problems on the Z, you wouldn't see it on the Maxima.

I haven't had any problems with my Enthusiast 6MT built in March. But then again, for the first 1200 miles, I didn't pass 4500RPM...believe me, it was one of the toughest things i had to do. When I went in for my first oil change, there was this guy who said his Z overheated on the freeway. His was built in December and an automatic.

I don't think they share transmissions... Because of the different layout. That would be absurd.

I hate BS responses like this....granted this is off topic from the original thread but they are suck compared to what exactly?? a high end aftermarket stereo that costs a good deal more?? please...I would take a nice factory Bose system over my piece of crap ford Audio system any day of the week....sometimes I think people like to bitch simply because it is Bose or because they are "into" high end aftermarket audio ...in reality for most people the Bose car audio setups are pretty darn good and much better than other offerings on the market, especially given the cost is at most a $500 upgrade unless it comes standard with the car.

And yes I have had aftermarket systems before and was very much into high end car audio, my old system wasn't that expensive (only cost about $3,000 installed)....but anyone who compares higher end aftermarket to anything factory is just silly IMHO, personally I will never waste the time or money upgrading from factory again as you recover none of the cost when you sell, it makes your car more of a target for theft, and you have to work to find a good installer or do it yourself unless you want a shoddy wiring job especially for the higher end stuff....my car was stolen because of the stereo right after I gave it to my brother, and there were four break in attempts when I owned it...
