3400+ Clawhammer Or Newcastle

I can either get corsair value ram plus a newcastle 3400, or get a clawhammer and some other type of ram. I am willing to spend a 100 more dollars on some good OCing ram if you guys think i should go with the clawhammer. Anyone? Oh, i only wanna OC is a couple hundred mhz. This wont require a new hsf, will it? Thanks!

The Clawhammer is not worth $25 over the Newcastle. The performace is pretty equal. Maybe a few %'s differance here and there depending on application. I dont know too much about overclocking. I had some of the same questions as you.

I would take the extra 200 MHz on the Newcastle.

On most benchmarks the Newcastle outperforms the Clawhammer (running stock speeds). The extra 200mhz is worth more than the extra cache (not exactly intuitive, but that's apparently the way it is). Now if you oc, then it all depends on how high you go, which depends on the chip you get, and it's really another ballgame then.

I got the Newcastle because I couldn't find a Clawhammer nowhere here in my country.
200MHz can be gained through O/C(especially since you say paying a little more for ram isn't an issue)
1 mb cache cannot.
It's a matter of perspective though since you can say that Newcastle with stock@2400 can be o/ced even further so....

well i heard the ch cannot oc as good as the nc, but dont take my word on it. If you get the ch to 2.4ghz like the nc, the ch would be better 😀

If i had a choice between the two, i'd probably get the ch.

If you plan on OCing I would go with the clawhammer. Stock speeds the Newcastle obviously performs better but OCing the Clawhammer will perform better if you can get its clocks high enough and for the most part they DO get around the same clocks.

Personally I think it doesn't really matter what one you choose.
They both have pros and cons. The Newcastle is guaranteed to
run at 2400Mhz, there is a chance a Clawhammer will not oc to
that level. They both are nevertheless very fast.

I went with the NC because I figured the CH was not worth whatever extra $.

I am very happy with my NC 3200+.

I'd get the newcastle, take the extra mhz. I've read many posts about the amd fab process and many of the ch's are processors that failed nc specs, so they knocked them down to ch's.

As you can see by the extreme lack of agreement here...it doesn't matter!

Just get whatever one is cheaper/easier to get...& since you said they cost the same, toss a coin.

You will happy either way.
