I might be completely wrong but doesn't the price of Operating systems affect the viability of AMD's product markdowns.

Lots of times I say to myself "Why even bother buying a cheap mobo/cpu when a non-transferable OEM license costs $110 and up".

In some ways I think Microsoft's effective monopoly is what hurts AMD the most. This is why I would like to see Google (or someone else) come through with a new Operating system.

Good point; I have free access to legitimate licenses for about $50k worth of Microsoft software through MSDNAA, that's why I still build my own.
