32MB AGP ViperII Video Card w/TV Out, $20 Rebate!!

Remember that compgeeks.com charges $7 to ship almost any order, get a few extra items. Their $9.50 80minute 50pack of CD-ROMs has been decent.

S3 / Diamond have obviously abandoned the board, but it isn't that bad for the money... and the TVOut is nice for your movie-watching PC.

Good deal Airwalker, but you may want to change the title. It's a bit misleading. People who don't read (like me) will think it's $20 AFTER rebate.

And hell, don't count on the MC Exclusives code. I've ordered twice with the code and didn't get either credited to my order.

Finally, it's back, compgeeks was out of stock because it's cheap,
I didn't go for the 32mb DDR geforce II GTS deal and jumb to this one because of the "need".
Think about it what a waste if we don't play 3d games but get the geforce because other anandtech people do that and we follow the wave? I think this card is good enuff to play diablo II. 😛

Outpost did have the same price w/ free overnight but they are out of stock and they are not re-ordering, they nixed my order this way

the problem with this card is that it's 2d sucks, so getting it isn't really worthwile even if you don't play 3d games

Rebate is dead "If purchased before 12/31/00 - there is a $20.00 MAIL IN REBATE Available from Diamond MultiMedia!!!! That makes this card $39.95 net to you with the Rebate!!!"
Rebate Link

I bought this card several months ago from C4S and still have not received by $20 rebate yet.

BTW - don't know why TuOni dredged this up from a month ago???

I bought this card back in Dec. when the rebate was going on. Used it in a system I built for a customer who needed to conserve money. Not too bad of a card for $45. Customer was happy to get a card that sold for over a $100 less than a year ago and is satisfied with the graphics. If you do own this card be sure to download the latest drivers at Diamond's site, it will make a difference.

What drivers do you download for this card - is it the Viper II or the Savage 2000 drivers. Both are on the web site - which would be the best?

I like the S3 version over Diamond version. Uninstall the Diamond drivers first before installing S3 version. I haven't had any problems under W98 using your standard apps and few older games (Unreal, Half-Life, few others) except it seems to use (Diamond driver also) about 5% of CPU at all times.

Out of stock 🙁

Does Compgeeks have like 10 of each item they post? I tried for the HP (Plextor) SCSI cdrom and they were Out of Stock

Oh well, I guess I have to be quicker next time!

Cheers

Regarding the card from computers4sure --> I got mine from them, and it was retail version. Regarding 2D quality, I really don't know what people are complaining about. I switched from G200, I can't see any difference...

I have to agree with StanG on this. I found the 2D quaility to be very good actually, better then the 2 Geforce cards I own. The 3D is fine with Win9X/ME and the latest drivers. Windows 2000 is a diffrent story thou, the drivers suck in a major way.

Good price, but...

Diamond bought by S3, bought by VIA, sold to (and now bacame(SonicBlue).

I doubt you can still use the rebate to a company that has been bought out, renamed, and cancelled their graphics devision.
