32bit RAMBUS? Why bother?

People are in a frenzy over the Asus P4T533 board with 32bit RAMBUS, but why? The only difference is you don't have to install it in pairs, but I bet when it is readily available it would be cheaper to buy 2 16bit 126MB sticks than 1 32bit 256MB stick. To top it off, it's slower that the Giga-Byte GA-8IHXP (16bit RAMBUS) in every benchmark except for SANDRA. though not by much

Mainly because it's 32bit (higher number attracts). ;) But 256MB isn?t cutting it, you?ll still need to purchase another stick of 256MB 32bit RDRAM if you want 512MB (which most gamers etc., will not have less then that).

I personally like the fact you don?t have to install it in pairs, but like you say if the price is about the same (or maybe more for 32bit RDRAM) then It?s a judgment call I guess.

I'm asking myself the same question. I'm now wishing that the P4T533 had the same four 16-bit slots as the P4T533-C. I'd be happy to install a pair of 16-bit 256 Mb RDRAMs instead of one 32-bit 512 Mb RDRAM that will probably cost more.

I just heard from a friend who works at one of the top local comp shops, that when they are supplied with PC4200 (32bit RDRAM), it will be around $240 for a single stick of 256MB! :Q
