321 Studios - Out of Business Sales

Just found this...

321 Studios (makers of DVDXCOPY, GamesXCopy, LabelXpert, AudioXtools, SNAPSHOTXPRESS, IMAGEXRESCUE, DVDXPOINT, DVDXMAKER, DVDXSHOW, CDXRESCUE, XP Tune Up Tools) are going out of business since the legal justice system has decided their DVD "backup" software was infringine on copyright laws.

I don't know if you can buy directly from 321 Studios, but the link below provides an online site that's getting rid of their products. There are probably other sites and will repost if I find any better deals on their stuff.

Probably not. Most people I know seem to use DVD Shrink instead. Plus, they say it's much better and it's also free.

Oh, and there's also DVD Decrypter.

I'm not sure of the stuff, but I do have DVDXCOPY Platinum and if you can get your hands on that (which is probably hard to impossible now) is definitely worth it.

I use both and never looked back. Both are free and so easy to use that my 3yr old niece knows how to backup her own dvd's without my help Then she burns them to dvd, labels them with a sharpie cuz she knows that labels could make a dvd spin off balance making it unreadable.

some judge needs to rule that preventing a person from excercising their right to make an archival copy of something they own is punishable with $1,000,000 fine per occurance, 10 years in prison, or both.

Took me 4-5 months to get it (black Friday rebate), but I bugged them enough and it did come through. They did give me the run-around for a while, though.

i have platinum, i never use it. Its amazing that a freeware tool is soo much better than the expensive "suite" that 321 sold.

What about game copy, I need something to make backup of some copy protected kids games.
A few weeks of a 5 year old using a game CD pretty will ruins them.

I purchased the original DVD X Copy and was able to get Platinum, Express and all the other variations at no additional charge. I've tried all versions of X Copy and IMO all of them are buggy with less features than the combination of decrypter/shrink. I think it's unfortunate; however, that they're going out of business. The company was aggresively defending "fair use".

Don't bother copying. I have a three year old son, and he got my old computer after I built my new one. I use a program called Alcohol 120%. It is awesome. It is a virtual CD program. You put a CD in and rip it. Then you can mount the image from the hard drive, and put the CD away forever! The computer thinks that you have a dozen CD-Rom drives. Schweet!

My old computer has only one CD-ROM drive, but my son has about eight or so educational games. I can have as many virtual CDs as I want. All he has to do is hit the icon, and the program starts.

Yeah, me too. I'm out $100 for two rebates from Best Buy during that Black Friday deal. I tried calling, but they wanted registration information, which I never had because I got rid of that crap w/o registering it. Should I try calling Best Buy to honor it since 321 is bankrupt now? Is 7 months too long a wait?

...and if Alcohol 120% is too expensive for ya, try DAEMON-TOOLS for free!
Alcohol 120% has more than that feature -- and it is great program, but daemon-tools is great for cdr emulation.
