What are the benefits of paying an extra $100 for the 640mb 8800 versus the 320mb model?

How big of a difference would there be in game?

I usually play games on 1024x768 and my windows resolution is about that too!

Thanks for the replies!

At 1024x768 320mb is more than sufficient. I'll go on to say that even X1950XT or Pro is good enough for your needs.

If you're talking about the 8800GTS, then 1024x768 FTL : the 8800GTS-320 will handle gaming at much higher resolutions than that. Try not to waste it ;)

I would go for the more memory.
simply because the newer games are using large amounts of textures.
Its not uncommon to see huge textures in the newer games.
If you use the hires textures with a 320MB card your not going to have room for the framebuffer.
That means it will have to do texturing over the bus, which will be slower.

On the world in conflict beta with everything maxed 1280x1024 ,out I ran out of Vram with a 256MB card by about 84MB.
Alot of people forget you need texture storage and enough memory for the card itself to work.
