You must have all yoru windows updates before you install yoru video card drivers

some options in Nvidia CP arent available without SP2 (with recent updates also)


uninstall and reinstall drivers when youre fully updated and you will see forced 16qAA

Keys you are way off! The Ageia Physx is so advanced, it creates jaggies during explosions to simulate distorted vision in warfare 🙂

PS; when I put the card it in ran fine on my 7800GT drivers at boot (158.19) and got the same performance once I installed 158.22 (latest certified drivers for Windows XP). The driver install was clean - I uninstalled the 158.19s, rebooted, did a driver clean, then installed 158.22, so it can't be that..

Your cpu was the bottleneck with a 7800gt at any resolution under 1280x1024 with most games. FEAR is an exception. With a pent 4 3.2 the 8800gts is a SEVERE bottleneck.
I would have NEVER suggested a 8800gts with any pent 4 cpu, its just a waste of money.

agreed that the cpu is a very big issue in performance ...

but that would not explain the issues he's having with the nv cpl not allowing > 4xaa ... this implies to me driver problems ...

if it were me, i'd wipe windows and start over ....

but then again, I do that almost weekly around here ;-) so that might not be the best option for you. sorry i can't be of more help, and i hope someone helps you get to the bottom of your issue.

Yes, that's a good option and one that is most likely to work. However, before you do this, try a repair install first. I've had driver problems before, when moving from nV to ATI, and no matter how many times I ran driver cleaner in safe mode or not, nV drivers hung around and messed up my performance.

Simply insert your XP disk, don't choose the first Repair option. Tell it to install XP, it will detect an existing install and ask if you want to repair it. When done, you'll still have all your data, apps, and games... but you will need to download every single Windows Update again.

I would at least try that before wiping clean (if a clean install is a pain for you).
