3200+ (winny) idles at 36 degrees (sometimes reboots under load)

Hey guys, I've got my pc setup as follows:

MSI Neo2 Platinum
3200+ (winny) @ 2.0ghz (never overclocked)
1 gb Mushkin valueram (cl2.5)
80 GB WD hard drive
Geforce 6800gt
"Tiger Pro" 350Watt PSU

Now, I've never had any problems with reboots until recently. Sometimes, the screen flickers and I start getting vertical lines going up and down the monitor...the lines are usually pink and white...just looks like the monitor is broken. My GPU temps are fine and my hard drive is a little dated. The odd thing was I assumed the CPU temps were fine until today when it started to happen again. I was sitting here and the screen started to flicker (usually when this happens I need to stop all apps and wait for it to stop, or the thing will reboot)....anyway, while it was flickering, I took off the side of the case and put a big industrial fan next to it....the flickering slowed and then stopped altogether....I was stunned. Anyhoo, I finally dl a temp gauge for my CPU and it seems to be idleing around 35 degrees and I saw it hit 40 a couple minutes ago. I tested it out on a game yet but I wanted to make sure that this is atleast, a bit out of the ordinary. Does this sound that a common/easily remedied problem to anyone? Thanks in advance!

P.S. Could my crappy second-rate PSU have anything to do with my elevated cpu temps?

I really don't think your problem is temp related.

As you just stated, your power supply is quite crappy, and for that 6800GT, I think its crapping out on you.

Try another PS, 400W with a 18A+ 12V rail. Quality rules, here.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna buy a new psu anyway....does anyone have any ideas why putting the big fan next to the open case seemed to fix the problem? If it's the psu, wouldn't it be a power problem and not a "heat" problem?

GPU temps are fine....CPU idles at 36 (according to MBM 5)....and hits 40 under load....prolly a little high....but I'm not running it with any special cooling.

I just dont see why the fan would help at all if it was the psu.

edit: I just loaded up AOE III, played it until the screen started to flicker (about 5 minutes), and then closed it and checked my temps;

Geforce 6800gt was 61 degrees C (fine)
3200+ was 46-48 degrees C (maybe a bit high?)

Your temps are fine. My guess is that the 6800gt is starving for power, I think your problems will be solved with a new power supply
