No point in spending more money on a CPU that won't OC any higher than the 3200+

y do u post questions when you can ask em on msn or in person? and the answer is i wanna o/c more and theres no chance of me affording a x3800 ><, also venice is just plain better than winchester in ways i dont feel like explaining

LOL, interesting turn this thread has taken...

If you already have a Winnie 3500+, i wouldn't change it d00d.

have you overclocked your winnie? some of them get great overclocks, like mine, 2700mhz. but i have seen some that cant get above 2300mhz. how high does yours go?

According to his sig, he's running at 2465 or so.

How much Voltage are you giving your winnie for the current clock speed that you're running at? If you're using stock voltage, then bump it up and see how far your current winnie will go.

Honestly, I doubt that you would see much difference in going with a 3200 venice. Hitting highclocks with a Venice is never a given, although there's a good chance. I'd suggest getting an x2, if you're really feeling the itch to upgrade.

Athlon 3500+ Winchester@2465mhz
1024mb DDR400 OCZ ram@2.5-3-3-6
Geforce leadtek 7800gtx
A8V-E Deluxe

Keep what you have. Even if you got 2.7 GHz out of a Venice, that is only 235 Mhz more than what you already have. It is not worth it IMO.

Be warned that not all Opterons and all Venices are the same.

Venices from week 0530 and up do not overclock as well as the early ones. The Opterons went through three revisions already, one good, one not so good and one in between.

If the opriginal poster must good speed guaranteed then the Winchester with its higher base speed is the better buy. If he can live with low speed if he's unlucky and wants to gamble on a good overclock in case he is lucky then a Venice is right.
