3200+ Venice overclock

Alright this is what is going down I have a 3200+ Venice shipping to me and I was wondering with a DFI Lanparty Ultra-D Mobo I have and stock HSF what Overclock should I be looking at I have 7 case fans. Also what if I change the stock HSF to a Zalman 7700-CU what would I then be looking at. Also If I changed from 7 case fans 80 MM to 3 120mm with the Zalman HSF what will I be looking at. Of course I'm using my AS5!! This is just a rough estimate so anything will do.

are you saying that youd take of 7 80mm fans and replace them with 3 120mm fans? wouldnt that give you less flow? the zalman will give you great performance though.

no see I'm selling the case that has 7 80mm fans and end up getting one that has 2 120mm fans and probably mod it so it has 3 or 4. but do you have any clue on what speeds I'll get?

Exactly. Mine only had 2.4 in it. The mobyXp that I bought could only do 333 FSB, my original winnie could only do about 2.3... why am I always cursed? 😉

lol, I don't think that switching heatsinks is going to give me 500mhz, maybe another 100mhz, tops. Stupid computer...

That's roughly what using a DFI or MSI instead of an ASUS would have given you

Hey! Good deal at MS/AMD launch event, otherwise I have been an Abit/DFI man... besides, I can feed it the 1.55 max volts I would have used anyway, and it still doesn't go farther. I don't think that I am seeing a chipset/mobo limitation, but believe you me that I will be looking into it. Not all processors are created equal 🙂

I tought the zalman was better? IOs that the tower looking one if so what fan should I put on there.

XP-90 /XP-120 are the best current A64 coolers.

amd venice 3200 lbble 0516epew from new egg here....2500 stock volts with XP-90c (All Copper) with AS5 in Arizona 28-31 idle and 41 Prime loading...HS was HUGE..i cant even imagine 120 fitting on much but if it does get it...28 degrees man and my room is like 78-80f Im in Phoenix...Completley impressed with venice/xp-90c combo. I can get 2.7 stable @ 1.6 for hours but then I stop testing as I want this chip to last and right out of the box , i want to play games, not test for crap all day (even tho it IS contagious and addicting). Face it, 500 Mhz is awesome.

MSI neo4-F mobo
6600 gt
1 gig Corsair Value Select 3200 <---great for running @2.7volts up to 216ish if needed ur running a divider anyway im at 250 x 10 so ram is 208ish i think stock timings
xp-90c (THE BEST I SWEAR MAN..my waterblock friend is pissed at me....i through a decent 92 fan on it and make sure its blowing DOWN into the fins as opposed to the way it said to go, and I GOBBED arctic silver 5 on HS and proc..trust me it was twice the amount any nerd in here would advise..)

have fun!

that actually lowers your temp to let you know. it is recommended to have almost the thinnest layer possiable the size of 1 1/2 grain of rice.

i know what they 'say' and I know what i accedently spooged out and I was like ,' screw it' It didn't squueze out the side atleast but it was alot...I dont matter...it can only be so thick accordind to pysics as the chip and HS are MASHED together any excess would squese out...I could put a gallon of mayonaise inbetween HS and chip..once this pressure applied..the actually thickness of whats inbetween will be the same....see my point....just filler up and mash it together.....whats the difference....28-31 is fine with me and alot of people im sure....I leave it...
I just think being too @nal about rice grain amounts is silly

Interesting--someone who owns more case fans than complete sentences. 🙂

But I kid, I kid. All form aside, I think your CPU will top off anywhere in the 2.0 - 2.8 GHz range. Yes, this is a generic and thoughtless reply--but I can't give a better answer unless you ask better questions. Good luck.

Most serious overclockers opt for a 120mm Panaflo, but it doesn't have RPM monitoring if that's important to you. If it is, consider AcoustiFan or a Thermaltake Thunderblade. The latter is rated at a very quiet 19 db, but who knows how they tested it? Sleeve-bearing fans are a little quieter. Ball-bearing fans are a little more reliable. The Panaflo has neither type and uses something like the liquid bearings you find in better hard drives. Get the Panaflo unless your motherboard won't POST without detecting a spinning CPU fan.
I agree with bjc112 that the XP120 is the best heatsink for A64s, but the Zalmans are right there, too. I just don't like their extreme weight -- not good for someone who wants to move the computer much.

. . . not only "generic and thoughtless" but also unhelpful, disparaging, and discourteous. If you can't say something helpful, say something nice. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. Also, what does "all form aside" mean?

Thank you for sticking up for me.

Artic Silver for life?

I'd say that you'd probably get better cooling in a case with 3 120mm fans, not to mention it will be much quieter.

I'd also think it would be safe to say that you could probably hit an OC of around 2.4-2.5. It's hard to put a number on it because there are so many variables to OC'ing, but most Venice chips seem to get to those speeds fairly readily.

lol. Your computer must sound like a rocket taking off, and attract an enorums ammout of dust. 3 120mms of decent CFM, in the 35db range is all the cooling you should need. Add an extra one to a xp-120 and you should get at least 2.5ghz.
