is one of your modules pc2700? I know that if you put 3 sticks of dual sided memory into a s754 board it runs at a reduced speed (In my case pc1600), but never run across such an issue w/ only 2 sticks.

read in your manual....it should tell u which dimm slots to put memory in. ie my asus manual has a table,

and for 2x512 sticks of double sided ram it said put them in dimms 1 and 2.

tell us what speed modules u bought, then tell us if there double or single sided (are there chips on both sides of pcb)
then tell us what mobo u have

That'll probably be the model of the PCB, which is shared with multiple MSI models. It'll be a model like "K8N NEO2" or some such thing.

Actually, "MS-6741" brings up two MSI models (B/c they share a common PCB), the K8TM-ILSR and the K8MM-ILSR. The K8MM is the onboard video one of course.

Well, to be fair to MSI it's very hard to sync two sticks of PC3200 RAM so that there won't be errors, you might actually have to invest in "matched pairs" of PC3200 to get it to run right.

Maybe try one of the Corsair TwinX packs...they're tested together to make sure they work:

Of course you should probably consider buying a less picky motherboard too.

There may be an ption to set the speed of the RAM yourself, rather than having the board set it.
Try at 200MHz (400MHz DDR) and just see if it works.
