Can a normal updated fast gaming pc handle running more than 10 VMs at once if you have 32 GB of ram or would you need a special server processor to handle this too ?

It all comes down to what the virtual machines will be doing, as mentioned above.

I've got a 2600K which is powering 11 VMs, email, web server, database, IPS/Firewall among other things. It's my SSDs and HDDs that are getting a workout.

Usually you will become thirsty for more disk performance and RAM before you run out of CPU cycles.

Thanks.

Just asking but how much cpu cycles does a email, web server, and database take about?

Like we both mentioned above It's really up to what it does. It's impossible to say without having some sort of benchmark-

How many users/hits a day, how many emails?
Are you serving application via the web which will also run on the web server ect....

Then it will be your disk performance and RAM.

This.

If you're doing a lab type environment or something, then you should be fine. I run a lot more than 10 VMs on each one of my esxi hosts that have an i5-3470 in it, but its the disk performance that takes a hit.

Bring some SSDs...
