History: My hard drive, a WD Raptor failed, so I replaced with a new Velociraptor. Installed XP Pro and only 1/2 of 300 gb is seen on boot drive. 500 gb Maxtor drive is missing in Explorer.

The BIOS and Computer Mgmt show these drives.

Thought that maybe a change to Win7 might solve this. No Luck. My Maxtor 500 gb drive just doesn't appear in Explorer. I have run WD Diagnostics and it also shows the Maxtor drive.

In computer management the 500gb drive shows as disk 0, as a 465.76 NTFS Health Partition. Originally it had about 5 partioned drives.

My Disk 1 shows as 127.99gb NTFS and is the boot drive, but also showing for this drive is 151.47gb unallocated. I want thse two combined into one c:\ drive.

Would partion magic solve all thse problems?

The Maxtor drive should be just fine. It was always a data drive, but, not showing. I do have most pictures and songs backed up.

Do you have SP2 for XP? Bigger drives need this to properly install XP. I created a slipstream of my original XP Pro that included SP2.

Not sure if this is the problem, but this kind of thing happened to me for this reason.

Yes, you need partition magic.
I'd also boot your XP install disk into Repair Console and run fixmbr and fixboot on both disks first.
And, yes, you'll need at least sp2, though W7 would be a better choice.
