31 Reasons Philly is Awesome

I've lived in the greater-Philly area my entire life, went to school in the city, and lived in South Philly for 2 years. The city has its faults, but it also has an awesome vibe that I can't quite describe. I'm moving back to the city (Roxborough) in a few weeks. 🙂

I quite agree that, despite its many and obvious faults, Philly is vastly underrated by most folks. Roxborough is a good location, near some great parts of Fairmount Park and the Wissahickon, close to Germantown/Mt. Airy, Manayunk, and the Art Museum area, and near enough to Northern Liberties and CC.

Perknose, is that where you live ?

Cost of living, auto insurance and crime are major issues. Wawa sucks, try Sheetz, there sandwiches are so much better. Philly cheese steaks didn't impress me, overpriced and greasy. By comparison, Chester county was a lot worse then philly.

Sheetz is not better than Wawa, heathen. :colbert:

Cool Story: When I was looking at new apartments, I got new quotes from my auto insurance company. The difference between where I currently live in NJ (a good area) and a good part of South Philly (Bella Vista) was $3 ($124/month vs. $127/month).

I heard that vomiting on 6 year old girls during Phillies games is like a State sanctioned sport at this point.

"authentic Amish food"?
Boiled turnips?

No dude, you have no idea. Amish food is the reason we drive there every few years. Reading Market, that's all you need to know. It's all about the food

I started thinking about the roast pork sandwiches at DiNic's and now my mouth is watering. Might have to make a pitstop soon.

the Vibe could well be happening due to the trainloads of crude oil coming through or maybe a side effect of the incessant fracking championed by soon to be ex-governor Corbett :ninja:
I was born in South Philly but thank god my parents moved out when I was one year old.
the one awesome item is WURD 900 AM especially the green hour on Sunday @ 11 AM EST http://900amwurd.com/
But I will not mention snowballs and Santa Claus but I do remember what the sinks at the "VET" were used for when the restrooms were crowded.

Philadelphia is a shithole. Other cities have everything Philadelphia has except Philadelphians, which means those cities are objectively better than Philadelphia.

I <3 philly, i drive down every few month and come back with 20 cheese steaks.. yes i would freeze them and eat them a few weeks later..

also dinic's pull pork/beef brisket sandwich are fving awesome too

Gotta agree with alot of the points. Historically awesome, lots of live music, plenty of good eats, and not too bad to get around in. I dig philly.

I saw a documentary about the city that followed Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington in the early 90s....I guess they lived there.

The only thing I hate about Philly are the drivers driving in NY. All of the previous shitty drivers from NJ moved out to PA and are shitty as drivers and parkers in NYC.

This is most definitely true up in Bucks County. Tailgating you on 2 lane, double yellow line roads, being far too important not to continue yakking on their cellphones in dicey traffic conditions, etc.

Heresy. You might as well say Little Debbie is better than Tastykake, or that Pringles makes a better potato chip that Herr's, or that Wonder Bread is better than Amoroso's rolls.

Hey, watch what you say about Bucks Co. I grew up there and I drive just fine. :colbert:

NJ drivers are worse, IMO. Much more aggressive and willing to take stupid risks IMO.

No, no, I was talking about transplant New Yawkers who drive like complete assholes in Bucks Co.

Yeah, just north of Doylestown. God's country. 😉
