Our 3 week old XSi refuses to turn on. My wife shipped it back for warranty repairs and sent it Fed Ex, next day.
50 something bucks. I guess she's in a hurry.

EDIT
Any recommendations for a back up camera? Obviously we'd want to use the lenses we have/buy for the XSi.

That sucks. You guys have a backup camera?

Not really related, but I purchased a sigma 150mm macro and the guy sent it fedex priority next day. I told him it wasn't necessary, but oh well.

my XSi's flash stopped working. Called canon and they said they will fix it under warranty, but have yet to send it in.

I had to send my XSi back after a couple months due to an excessive number of hot pixels, several grouped together creating giant red blobs on my images. The first repair attempt left me with serious banding issues, and still a rather large number of hot pixels (though not as concentrated or bad as before), and after a week or so of using it, decided to send it back again. Whatever they did the second time different than the first worked great, and I couldn't be happier with my XSi now. Not having it for a couple of months though was really frustrating.

The leaked Nikon roadmap in the thread JP linked is interesting; I've been planning to upgrade to a full-frame camera by the end of this year/early next year, and between the potential D700 replacement from Nikon, and Canon's seemingly increasingly poor quality, I'm considering switching. Luckily I don't have that much invested in EF lenses, and was planning to buy a couple with the 5D2, so if I do switch to Nikon I won't technically lose *too* much.

I still have some time to think it out, and make sure the Nikon roadmap is real, and consider whether I really do want to give up on Canon; but once I have more than $1200 into either brand, I think that's where I'll be staying for awhile.

Back up camera is only a point and shoot. This is our first dslr.
I just bought the basic kit with the 18-55 IS lens to build on. I may wait a while to get more lenses to see how this camera is going to act.

once it's working you should really enjoy it; it sucks that you had such serious issues so early on. At least with my problems i could, technically, still use my camera.

Link?

Knock on wood, but I've never had an issue with the 30D I own. Granted, I've only put about 5,000 clicks on it since I got it about a year ago, (so, approx 30k total, it was used), but everything works as I'd expect.... maybe the older tech is nicer? I see lots of topics complaining about 40D's and 50D's.... not much with 30D's...

XT, XTi, XS, 20D, 30D

You should be able to find any of those models used for pretty cheap.

There is a 20D and an XT for sale in the FS/T forum right now as well.
