Ive heard many people say not to get Value Select type of RAM if one is going to OC. I am not worried about 1:1 timeings. Are there other things to look out for that is going to cuase the RAM to trip up when I go for 2.4Ghz and beyond even if I leave the RAM itself at around stock settings?

Also, is it true the winny (or is it all A64?) has no effect by haveing ram in dual config mode due to the memory control being on chip?

Pardon me for being a 64bit n00b :p

If you leave the RAM setting at "200" (assuming you use an nVidia chipset; I don't know what VIA does), it'll run 1:1. As you go up, you need to tone it down to the 166 setting (5:6), and when you go even further, the 133 setting (2:3).

I could only get about 217-220 stable out of 2x512 value select at default timings

It has a very small effect. Dual channel, timings, and bandwidth or actual ram speed all play a role. The fastest is to have tight timings and 1:1 ratio, but the fact is that having cheaper ram is often a cost-effective way to better performance overall. By that I mean that you can save money and buy a better video card or another accessory. Read the thread @ the top of this forum.

I have the setup you're talking about and an AV8. The ram has not caused me any problems at all, but yes, I'm using dividers to keep it near it's stock speed.
