<< normal max speed limiter RPM, >>

I'm so afraid to sound like a doofus here, b/c you obviously know a lot more about cars that I. I think the limiter is speed based, not RPM based, but I could be wrong. Someone took it out for me. I once drove it from STL to San Diego, and took it to like 120 MPH on the highway. On a closed track, the highest I've taken it to was like 155 MPH (gradually worked up to that). It handles amazingly well IMO (very forgiving)

Raspewtin: I think they do RPM locks so that you don't burn your engine out. Like if someone drove on first gear at 10,000 RPMs on a Supra, it would probably blow it out. It's just at the last gear, however much RPM you can get to will determine your top speed. On my Corolla, the RPM is locked at 6000, I can't get passed 45 mph on first gear. =) And it sounds scary when I try, but eventually the fuel cuts off.

I own a `94 300ZX TT and it's by far the most awesome car I've ever driven for under $30K. The Supra's ok... I looked at them too at the time of purchase, but it just didn't compare to the handling and general performance of the Z (plus I think it's just beautiful). In fact, the car that came closest to changing my mind was the RX-7 turbo but even it paled in comparison.

Get the Z, have it modded out to Stage 5, and laugh at all the boobs in Camaros and Vettes while you blow right by them. ;)

Overall car, the Z looks more sophisticated. I said this considering both the performance/character of the car and the styling of the car. It looks more mature. Both the car, and the driver.

On the other hand, Supras are more boy-racer look. Just looking at it, the wing kinda tell that this car is designed for riceboys. Not to bash supra users out there. As I'm sure that there are exceptions. I'm only talking the general perception out there.

Man... price drop on the Fairlady Z, I can get a '93 for $11,000. I think in terms of price... nothing beats the Z, and Nissan/Datsun's history of performance cars intices me even more. The RX-7 is sweet, but I don't know how many mechanics know how to fix a rotary engine around here. If I buy a used car, I'm assuming it's gonna break down on me soon. That's where I like the Supra. I love Toyota's reputation for reliability and well-built cars (except for what I've heard about the MR-2 Spyder). Anyone out there have mechanical problems with their Z's or Supras?

cirek Its good you expect it to break down soon, becuase then when it does it won't be too upsetting :) As nice as these cars are you'll be paying a bit of coin in repairs...I've heard that getting work done on an RX7 is very pricey (as you guessed).

My Z's been very reliable... except for the 2 clutches I've burned out of it. But that was all my fault, not the car's. ;) Other than that it's just been basic maintenance (oil change, air filter, etc).

I'm happy with Supra thus far... another trial tonite...

Have really not been able to tell much difference from Avanti thus far..

both stay in place.. heat transfer is gooood... cost has varied.. supra was cheaper but ????

For now Supra....

Go with the supra(MKIV), those babies put around 280-300hp to the wheels, and with around 2k invested in mods that'll rise to around 390-400 rwhp. You'll be running the 1/4 mile in high 11's or low 12's(if your a good driver :)).
The supras engine is bulletproof and can support upto 600 rwhp on stock internals, but for some reason craig paisley is running around 1100 rwhp on stock internals and runs in the 8's, go figure :)

Btw heres a comparison for both of those cars in stock form.

P.S. What about a dsm? Its cheap, has a turbo, is awd and can be modded like crazy with all the money you'd save from not buying a supra/Z :D

I think both are too bloated, I'd go with the 3rd gen RX-7. But if I had to pick one, I'd get the supra. Z's are just too common.

Supra's styling is just hot. Especially with the oversized spoiler...

Plus, they are fast as all hell, and they have that exotic flare. Look at that link, it outperforms every other car in every test but one.

I own a 300zx N/A so I might be biased, but I think the 300ZX looks way classier than the Supra. The only Jap. sports car that looks classier is the NSX. For all out performance, I won't deny that a Supra is the better choice.

I'd personally would rather have a TT 300Zx over the Supra. :)

I think the Supra is dope for performance. I still like the looks of the fairlady Z... I wish I had an NSX... what to do... what to do... Engine swap!!! =D

I believe automatics are popular for highly modded turbo Supras. Because with automatics your RPMS don't drop when shifting, so the turbos can remain spooled.

A majority of the fastest supras in the world (I think like 7 of the top 10 fastest) are automatics. In the straight line the automatic is just as fast as the manual.

Its different after you've done various mods and spooling the turbo as mentioned below...I really doubt that a stock auto supra will be as fast as a stock manual in the hands of a good driver.

korowai that thing is so sweet I can't even see it - it must have driven away, IE. there are no pictures on that page ;P

Well, you don't have to believe me, just ask around. :)

Manual turbo supras do anywhere from 13.3-13.6 in the quarter. Auto supra's do anywhere from 13.4-13.9.

hey I'm not denying it, I don't really know I'm just kinda making an educated guess based on other cars.. ;) Pretty good times for an auto.
