For gaming, particularly with your big LCD monitor, I'd be aiming that money towards the best video card you can justify.
 
Well I ordered the DVD burner, got a Pioneer A06...and also ran into a bit more extra birthday money(unexpected I may add), so I may have a Radeon 9800 Pro coming as well... used, from the FS/FT forum, but I will take it. 🙂

A compaq (it has an LSI chip on it, I'm not sure if it's a rebadge or what) smart array 4200 controller, they're like 80-90 bucks on fleabay 🙂
 
I'd make a Mortgage payment, CC payment, put it in yer college fund, whatever.....yer system is fine.
