Bah, I got a 500gb MaxLine last week...Maxtors are still loud, lol.

Try using the Hitachi Boot CD Tool that you can simply download from Hitachi's website. You can change the power settings and the noise setting on your Maxtor hard drive.

7200.10s are loud in general.

i'm hoping there is a similar deal for a western dig or hitachi drive. seagate/ maxtor as of late are loud very vibratey and hot drives

I agree 100%. Not only that, I sold a bunch of Seagate 400GB ATA drives in my eBay business and they have terrible reliability. Many of them start out sounding like crap and die between one and 3 weeks. My customers complain and then send the drives for RMA. Not good for me... I guess-calculate that about 20% of them are fatally defective from the factory.

I got the 2x I ordered in today and they are indeed 320GB with 16MB Cache. How do I find out whether this is truly a 7200.10 drive with perp recording or not? I looked at the papers at seagate and didn't see anything about it. Unless I overlooked it.

Edit: I compared the number to the Seagate brand, and besides for the 'M' in the number, it does appear to be a true 7200.10 drive with the perp recording. So I see that as good 🙂

if you look on the bottom of the HD label, it will say manufactured by seagate on the right and on the left will be marked 3.5 series 7200.10
