30 year olds behaving like 20 year old - new trend, or the way it's always been?

Look at the divorce rate vs our parents' generation. Also, look at the population pyramid: there are 20 million more 0-24 year olds than 25-44 (2010 Census). That means we are bottom heavy and catering to the youth (prevalence of video games, Twilight/teen movies). Also the delay of education in conjunction with fears of marriage have transformed the 30's into the new 20's generation.

damn, that explains the constant sharing and checking in nonsense to tell everyone where you're spending money

Honestly, I think there was always a large population of men who occupied and spent any earned wealth at bars. People often lament how lazy today's generation is for some reason, like everyone were pillars of virtue in the past or something. I think they might have done to many drugs when they were younger and just forgot what actually happened.

Here's an example: My dad used to work at a chemical plant in the early 80s. There was a guy there who every night would show up, go into a storage closet where he had set up a cot and sleep for his entire 8 hours shift. Then he would go to another job during the day. He literally was paid to sleep. What do you think this guy tells his kids? I'm guessing he says that he used to work two jobs when he was their age so they shouldn't be so lazy. One things for sure, moderately paying unskilled jobs where I sleep in a cot for 8 hours seem to have gone down in availability these days. I had to go to college to get this job half sleeping all day sitting upright in an office chair!

I'm curious as to what this means for future generations. Who are the people who are actually reproducing?

people who aren't your ethnicity

the definition of what an average american looks like has changed a lot since the 18th century

Well, firstly - we've jerked off since the beginning of time. You're confusing ancient hebrew law ("let's say god hates everything I personally find icky") with morality and values. Morality is concerning yourself with how YOU live your life, not others. That's called judgement and very much against what the J man preached (while I'll get mocked for saying this, I am a proud Christian who follows the guidance of Jesus and not the bigotry of Saul and other men who had merely repeated the values of their time). Anyways, yeah. I forgot my point. I'm just trying to turn your trolling into a discussion. I see how my OP made this a judgement thread but I'll apologize, my curiosity is in the why not the damnation of people who live differently.

Honestly, it makes me sad more than anything - looking at my social media photos from 10 years ago and realizing that my life is very different and my friends lives are still the same made me sad. Not angry, not judgemental, just sad. I hope they don't find themselves doing the same thing in another 10 years, but I don't hate them for it. That's a little passive aggressive, I know, and I apologize for the condescension.

Im not trolling, I am serious. As far as the masturbating on cam thing I gave as example as something that is very wrong today - yes, people have done it since the dawn of time. But now with the digital age you can do it randomly to anyone and hundreds of times all in one session. Disgusting and sinful.

These things must be said, but if you feel this was not the direction you wanted to take with your thread I understand. 😉

And has been going in response is a change of culture in dealing with abuse, seeing that policies are in place so that noting happens again including any possible "cover ups".

Things have changed.

Go to church.

The Church was implicit in the propagation of child abuse over several decades.

The same people are still at the top of the organisation.

Nothing substantial has changed.

What little change has taken place only occurred because they weren't able to cover it up.

I will go to the pub instead.

You're mistaking a curiosity with fist pumping frustration on my part - I don't care (other than a lack of friends who do something other than drink on a Friday), it honestly means more opportunity for people who strive to dress/act/live age appropriately. At a recent job interview I was applauded for having a house, wife, child, and long term goals - self congratulations aside, I like the distinction. I welcome immaturity in my peers, helps me stand out more 🙂

You're a lovely human, and yes I'd call you one to your face.

Time for an attitude adjustment.

Well, getting off has always evolved with advances in technology. I don't like throwing around "if it doesn't hurt you then why care?" because that's too easy - immorality that doesn't involve you should still bother you- look at racism, sexism, and homophobia - as a straight male others immorality and bigotry still pesters the shit out of me (and active and hateful judgement, to me, is the ultimate sin other than murder). But what individuals do to get off is something that we Christians need to get that stick out of our ass, mostly because it makes us look uptight, dated, and boring. I've done some fishy stuff in my younger years and, since I was not attached at the time, I will not be ashamed or apologetic - why does perceived sexual immorality of others bother you? I don't think it's new, I don't think our society is doomed by it, and I don't see how being offended makes you seem anything but obtuse.

The teaching from the Bible is that you should not sin. It is far worse if you cause others to sin. If you make your pubes available for any random stranger to see publicly online and they masturbate as a result, not only have you sinned but you caused someone else to do it and are therefore responsible.

This is not a matter of being uptight. Its a matter of self control and understanding that is not appropriate to be doing that or things like it in the first place.

I agree with you OP, people should be good little citizens and conform to tradition. Everyone must give up their freedom and become boring and bitter and wear old-man pleated pants and get married and have children as soon they have a stable job. If they don't, it means they are selfish and immature!

OK, sarcasm aside, what ever happened to linear progression? Your 20s were defined by x, your 30s by y, your 40s by.... If there's no differentiation/ growth, isn't that kinda dull? Sure, it may seem 'fun,' but isn't it a little numbing?

If you have to shove religion down peoples' throats, then you have a lot to learn what it means to be a Christian. Let me guess, you just found God, completely revamped your DVD and mp3 collections to more Christian ones, and told coworkers they need to find Jesus? One day such things will seem trivial when you find true peace and love from within.

I like how suddenly this other person is no longer responsible for their own actions.

This is a losing battle that will never be won. Since the invention of the wheel man has always found a way to have sex with the latest technology. Dill a hole in the wheel, have sex with it. A sweeper that sucks up stuff, have sex with it. Randomly call people, have sex over phone. Flashlight I can make that work. Video camera, have sex over internet. Once man figures out how to have sex with virtual reality then the VR craze will be here and the list goes on and on and on.

There can still be progression, but it doesn't have to mirror that of middle class suburban american families of the 50s.

We'll have to agree to disagree then. My version of Jesus Christ hung out with hookers and not only forgave but welcomed them into his home. I think religion, something I respect, would have a much better chance of being embraced if they just ditched the sexual politics bullshit. We're all here because someone decided to fire one off. What goes on in the privacy of ones bedroom shouldn't just be accepted, but embraced as the origin of life. Getting off is fun for a reason, after all. And I'm not saying it should only be for procreation, where's the fun in that? 🙂

I'm masturbating to your post. I just thought you should know since you're culpable for my sin. I don't want you to forget to confess to the profound effect your words have had by giving me an erection and an unquenchable desire to do sinful things to myself.

There was an article about this last year. Everyone is acting 10-20 years younger due to new beauty products and cultural changes.

When I was teenager.. I used have wet dreams. Does that mean I am sinning too? As.. some woman was riding me in my dreams? Oh noes, I have sinned. 🙄

He doesn't have a flu, he is hungover. from taking a day off.

I am doing double work for 2 days in a row because he is a lazy ass who wanted to go party. And I've already talked to him about being the least productive member of the team.

Don't get me wrong, I love to drink, I love to take days off here and there. But I dont fuck team members over, especially if I was already dragging them down by sucking at my job.

It's a particular strain of flu, bottle flu. Surely you've had it before. Symptoms are occasional vomiting and terrible headache in the morning. It's usually gone within 12 hours...

Wait, if you had wet dreams, then it "came out on its own" and you refrained from sinning. The devil possessed you and made your body lose its load...

You discussed your home ownership, marital status and parenting status in a job interview? Good lord... I guess there still is a difference in corporate between the experiences of men and women. I would NEVER bring that up in an interview.

lol I missed the "bottle" part before.

usually I wouldn't care, but I dislike blue falcons, especially repeat offenders.

I'm not sure why having fun at 30 while still having a job is a bad thing.

Why is it a bad thing to live with room mates and not want to get married. Not everyone wants the financial burden of living by yourself / getting married. If you are still working, getting by, having fun, why the hell not. You're still young at 30, enjoy yourself.

I cant have fun cuz I got no money, cuz I got no job.
If I was working I wouldnt have the time to enjoy myself.
Life is a twisted game.
